Set to lead an anti-Trump march, @BetoORourke is deflecting 2020 questions, saying he’s there to support El Paso in its opposition to a border wall.

The US-Mexico border is visible in the background here.
.@BetoORourke: “I am so proud of what El Paso is doing right now. We have decided that no one will tell our story but us, and that story is powerful, it’s positive — it is the truth in face of these lies.”
.@BetoORourke is here with his wife and three children. I counted three roving gaggles — one at least mostly in Spanish — before volunteers’ human chain got the cameras back.
Some very polite protesters here.
After a speaker says “a new presidency” is coming, the crowd breaks into a “Beto, Beto, Beto” chant. @BetoORourke heard it, leaned over and smiled to his wife Amy.
.@BetoORourke takes the stage, says El Paso is a safe city “not because of walls.”

He’s praising organizations here that welcome “those who have fled the most violent countries.”

“I’m so proud and grateful to stand with every single one of you,” he says.
The scene as @BetoORourke marches.
“Beto, run for president, buddy,” one marcher says.

“Thinkin’ about it, thank you,” he says.

That sets off another “Beto, Beto, Beto” chant.
.@BetoORourke on stage: “With the eyes of the country upon us, all of us together are going to make our stand, here in one of the safest cities in the United States is America — safe not because of walls, but in spite of walls.”
.@BetoORourke: “We stand against national security declarations that allow the president to subvert an equal branch of government.”
