1. I didn’t know the Parkland community a year ago. None of us did. Actually, they didn’t know themselves to be who they are right now.

They’ve fought tirelessly in the last year while trying to keep their heads above water. Gasping for air at times.

2. The Parkland community fought for gun safety while being knocked down by those wishing to silence their pain. Let’s be clear, these were victims being further victimized.

Instead of retreating into darkness, they arrived into their light.

And I’ve stood and watched in awe.

3. Since Columbine there have been 231 school shootings, murdering 709 people - 231 of which were children.

The Parkland community said enough. They’ve woken up every morning without their children, sisters, friends, and harnessed that collective pain into collective power.

4. As we remember the Parkland massacre let’s not forget, we can change the status quo. We can stop this obsession our country has with guns. It does not have to be this way.

5. Today, I want to thank the Parkland community and activists for all they’ve been able to accomplish for our safety; for my kids safety. I appreciate you so very much.

I’m forever by your side in this fight.
