And to be clear on Gen Con and other RPG companies/conventions/institutions: you're not going to get the thunderous denunciation of abusers that would feel *right.* For legitimate reasons. (1/x)
Whether there's proof that would hold up in court shouldn't matter in terms of believing victims, or banning people. A business can absolutely decide, without ironclad evidence, that someone's too much of a risk to have present and ban them from their event.
But actually saying, "X is a rapist and that's why we're banning him from our convention" could get you slapped with a defamation lawsuit, so there are legitimate reasons for businesses to avoid that stark a statement.
But there is nothing legitimate stopping a business from saying, "X's statements and behavior are not consistent with the type of safe, welcoming environment we're trying to create and we won't be doing business with him/allowing him at our events/etc."
