We need a national conversation about what type of elections we want, what type of EMB & the standards that EMB will be held to. This postponement cost political parties & INEC (tax payers) at least N49.B
No ifs or buts, postponement by @inecnigeria should have been earlier.

After elections, political parties & CSOs should consider suing INEC for costs & maybe citizens will file a class action suit. INEC must be more deliberate about its planning. Last minutes postponements are not acceptable.

We need strict protocols that allows for outside readiness assessment at least 2 weeks before elections & if INEC is not, the trigger for postponement happens. Our experience means we cannot rely on INEC’s self assessment of preparedness. It’s costing us too much

After years of trouble with logistics INEC should be able to handle its own distribution with a fleet of vehicles & planes. Rather INEC has a fleet of planes than the Presidency. Let’s take NURTW, Army & now CBN out of picture except the Navy for the creeks.

February = harmattan. If weather makes distribution difficult, change the date for elections & end these excuses. As we dream of a time when elections are not events which shutdown Nigeria, INEC must be sensitive & accountable for the real costs to lives, time & earnings

Along with Constitutional & Election Law reform, INEC & its internal ops, including selection of RECs, Commissioners etc. need a complete overhaul.
It is time for donors & CSOs to evaluate all INEC’s systems & processes - from procurement & recruitment to collation & use of ICT

Elections in Nigeria must be less expensive to state & citizens; more transparent, results more credible & INEC must be held to higher standards. Parties & politicians will come & go. what we need is confidence that our EMB works for us & our votes count only as we cast them. END
