A strange thing happened yesterday: I wound up on TSA's Secondary Security Screening Selection and got detained while returning from my honeymoon! Here's how it went down.
While connecting through Charlotte from Sint Maarten, I had to go through a TSA checkpoint. The agent scanned my passport, placed me to the side, and shut down the lane. I waited for a few minutes until his supervisor arrived.
The TSA supervisor made me walk through (1) a metal detector and (2) the full-body scanner. He then made me take out my iPhone and iPad, remove their cases, and open them to prove they ... worked? Then he did full body pat-down #1.
Two TSA agents then methodically searched every inch of my backpack and suitcase, including each pill container and pocket—even my little shampoo bottle!—testing them for explosives. They also tested my electronics and searched through my books.
Then came full body pat-down #2! This time, a TSA agent searched

•In between my toes
•My armpits
•Underneath my genitals

Then, joined by a second agent, he led me to a small room and shut the door. Alarming!
In this little room, the same agent did full body pat-down #3, which was even more thorough than the first two! I will spare you the details but it was quite invasive. Then they held me there while other agents finished swabbing every inch of my belongings for explosives.
After 10 minutes in the room, the agents told me I was free to go. I said, "May I have my passport back?" The agent smiled, walked away, and came back with it.

The entire experience lasted about half an hour. I might have missed my connection, but it was delayed.
I have Global Entry and pre-check, yet this is the second time I've gotten SSSS, and it is an extremely unpleasant process I wish I could avoid! Unfortunately, TSA keeps its screening criteria secret.

Gorsuch is deeply committed to the right to a trial by jury. Today he and Sotomayor once again teamed up to defend it—though this time, a majority of the justices seem to be on their side. (Alito still doesn't really believe in the Sixth Amendment.)

North Carolina court declares recent voter ID and tax cap constitutional amendments INVALID because they were voted onto the ballot by a racially gerrymandered state legislature. A ruling of extraordinary breadth.

1) While in the midst of the #TrumpShutdown, let's talk about the @TSA and how much of our tax dollars are wasted on something that does not make us any safer. But first, some history:
2) Prior to 9/11, private companies held the responsibility of screening passengers. At Logan airport, Globe Securities was contracted by @AmericanAir and Huntleigh USA by @united. At Dulles and Newark airport, Argenbright Security was contracted by UA.
3) All security operated with the CAPPS system (computer assisted passenger prescreening). The system used a passenger name record (PNR) that provides risk assessments to passengers based upon collected data (name, address, no-fly list, etc).

The death of Bola Ige is undoubtedly the last ethnically tragic event that happened to the Yorubas.
Of all the politicians who lived after Awolowo, none was more colourful (perhaps even more than Awo himself) and none was as charismatic as Bola Ige.

Unfortunately for him, he also stirred deep envy from his friends and deep hatred from those who chose to be his enemies.
