We need your help!

Conservative MP, Alberto Costa, is proposing an amendment to the motion being voted on in the House of Commons next Wednesday 27th Feb. The amendment calls for the Prime Minister to ask the EU to jointly agree *as soon as possible*
to adopt the citizens' rights part of the Withdrawal Agreement - whatever happens with Brexit.
Mr Costa has a lot of support from MPs already, cross party and across all wings of the Conservative party. The3million and British in Europe are writing to every single MP to ask for their support - to increase the chances of the Speaker selecting this amendment next week.
However, it will make much more impact if MPs receive emails from their own constituents - so please write!

A THREAD...
1) There is currently no legal certainty for the majority of Brits in Europe, as many EU27 countries are either not officially announcing or not confirming their no deal plans until they see what the UK does in relation to their own citizens.
2) The withdrawal agreement (which allows UK citizens either to apply, or simply register for a new status in their host country and to continue to work and receive healthcare and pensions) would go up in smoke...

MPs - do not buy the PM’s pig in a poke.
To head off the Costa amendment, which has extensive cross-party support, she simply announced that Jeremy Hunt had already written to his 27 EU counterparts “to seek assurances on the rights of UK citizens”.
Instead of a binding agreement she offers pious hope.
Instead of taking back control she leaves the fate of British nationals in the hands of 27 different EU governments, all increasingly frustrated with the UK’s handling of Brexit.
The only reason the PM offers is that the EU “does not have legal authority” to ring fence the Citizens’ Rights part of the withdrawal agreement. There is NO legal barrier to such an agreement.

We were delighted to hear the PM recognise the plight of both @the3million and @BritishInEurope ahead of the Costa amendment tomorrow. But...
We argue that in case of no deal, our rights should be confirmed as a residual withdrawal agreement under Article 50. This is an unprecedented situation, Article 50 has never been applied before. If there is political will, a legal way can be found to do that.
We argue that until the UK make an official request to ring fence our rights, the EU27 will not move their position. The lives of British citizens living in the EU have been held in limbo for too long.

Following a series of defections, the House of Commons is now 650 independent parties.

Still, Theresa May remains Prime Minister because no one actually wants to be in the driver's seat for Brexit, they just want to later claim they'd have nailed it.
Mrs May boards a flight to Brussels, her 96th in March.

She believes she can secure a majority for the WA in the House of Commons if the EU drops the backstop, bans all non-diesel cars, and apologizes for that one time a Romanian accidentally looked a Tory Lord in the eye.

Amid much fanfare, Labour unveiled its amendment yesterday. It will (I think) be voted on in the House of Commons next week. It attracted attention because it (finally, for some) seemed to take the People's Vote off the table, and bring it into play. 2/

Two years after the EU referendum what do we know?
1. The promises of the ‘easiest trade deal in history’, ‘we will hold all the cards’, ‘the exact same benefits’ and ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’ have all foundered on the rock of reality
2. The Cabinet is still arguing over what kind of customs arrangements it wants with the EU
3. There is no workable proposal yet to avoid a hard border in Northern Ireland
4. British businesses exporting to the EU don't know what to plan for which is why many support the UK remaining in a customs union
5. We still have no idea what our future relationship will be on security, foreign policy, data, approval of medicines and consumer safety
