1. Why have I been saying more indictments are coming? Mueller was appointed to investigate “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump and . . .
2. any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation . . .” Mueller has done exactly that. And now he apparently is ready to issue a report. However, his mandate does not (expressly) include prosecuting all criminal cases he determined should be brought . . .
3. To be clear, Mueller’s team decided to indict multiple individuals during the course of the investigation. Why? Because he has been attempting to develop cooperating witnesses. Why? So he can continue to acquire evidence to hold the CORE CRIMINALS accountable . . .
4. All indictments thus far have been a means to an end. The end? Charge the CORE CRIMINALS with all crimes that are supported by the evidence uncovered and developed by Mueller during the course of his investigation. Those future prosecutions will be handled by . . .
5. career prosecutors in the many involved US Attorney’s Offices: Southern District of New York, Eastern District of Virginia, District of Columbia (my former professional home) and perhaps others. Indeed, we have already seen Russia-related case brought . . .
6. by all of those US Attorney’s Offices. And just as sure as Trump will lie tomorrow, more prosecutions are coming. The CORE CRIMINALS will be held accountable, IMO. Mueller will settle for nothing less than complete justice and accountablity. #JusticeIsComing #CoreCriminals

As a 30-year prosecutor may I add that Rosenstein’s comments do indeed reflect the general principle that we don’t “out” info gathered in criminal investigations if we conclude there is insufficient evidence to bring charges. BUT this is NOT a typical criminal investigation...
2. This is an investigation that has collected up tons of evidence and information directly relevant to Congress’s Constitutional oversight responsibilities vis-a-vis the executive branch. I suggest it is imperative that complete information is provided to Congress...
3. So Congress can fulfill its constitutional oversight obligations. The Constitution and the American people demand nothing less than full disclosure. Footnote: burying evidence of criminal conduct could be viewed as assisting the offender by being an accessory after the fact.

1. I agree with Jill. This is especially true if the Senate shirks it’s responibility to fairly/honestly consider conviction/removal of the president after he’s impeached by the House of Representatives. Consider the following hypo . . .
2. If a president bribes 34 Senators to vote against conviction/removal, then the Senate could not reach the necessary two-thirds to convict and remove the president from office. . .
3. Because the current DOJ policy (per the OLC memo) says you can’t indict a sitting president, he gets away with bribery and a criminal president remains in office. This is the DOJ/OLC essentially saying, “tough luck America, nothing you can do about it.” THIS IS WRONG!

1. Her’s a theory: Barr may have seen the Iran-Contra affair as involving “good” people trying to accomplish a righteous thing (“arms for hostages” scam; funding the Contras who were battling to defeat the Sandinista rebels/socialist government in Nicaragua. . . .
2. Don’t misunderstand me, I believe that breaking the law to accomplish something that certain ideologues think is “good” or “necessary” is dead wrong. In fact, it’s unpatriotic. Still, if Barr thought those involved were trying to accomplish something “in the national interest”
3. That may explain why he supported mass pardons. I hasten to add that this prosecutor generally is troubled by pardons in principle. The same mitigators some may have seen in the Iran-Contra affair are not present here. Those dealing with Russia and lying about it . . .

The #Resistance appears, almost without exception, to be in a state of high alarm or depression about this. This reaction is unjustified. The fact (assuming it is a fact) that Mueller is ready to wrap up his investigation is actually good news. 2/33
As I have opined for months (including in a short thread last night), Mueller will submit a report AS SOON AS HE HAS ENOUGH TO NAIL TRUMP--not any sooner, and not any later. 3/33

Manafort transcript unsealed tonight in which DC District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson rules that Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort lied intentionally after entering a plea agreement:
p.10: “My concern isn’t with non-answers or simply denials but times he affirmatively advanced a detailed alternative story that was inconsistent with the facts.”
p. 11: Judge then says Manafort’s claims about his declining health in prison were simply asserted by his lawyers with no effort to back the claims up with any support.

Judge: “It left the impression that the issue was left in the pleading for public consumption, but not mine.”

While the May 4 hearing in US v. Manafort before Judge Ellis certainly got more
exposure, there was also the April 19 Manafort hearing before Judge Amy Berman Jackson in DC.

Some excerpts...
Judge Berman considered the following:

1) Jurisdictional challenges to the Special Counsel
2) Motions to dismis multiplicitious charges
3) Motions to strike the laundering/forfeiture allegations
Compared to Judge Ellis, Judge Berman was less skeptical about challenges to the Rosenstein appointment order, noting it said "any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign."
