I have spent the last few months listening to nursery rhymes that my niece plays on repeat and as a consequence I have very, very strong feelings about the nursery rhyme "Nan Teri Morni"

Let's start with the first line.

"Nani teri morni ko morr le gaye"

Let's face it, these are animals who are probably mating. Attributing lack of consent and/or agency to the peahens is insulting, and a rejection of how animals normally behave.

"Baqi jo bacha tha kaalay chorr le gaye"

First up, is this racial profiling helping solve the case? Secondly, and my biggest pet peeve, WHY DIDN'T YOU LEAD WITH THE FACT THAT NANI HAS BEEN COMPLETELY ROBBED?!?!

Nani has just lost *literally everything* she owned, other than the morr, which have also eloped. I mean, her whole house was just robbed the morr story is just a footnote! The headline needs to be about this massive robbery!

OK so racial slur se body shaming. I mean I get it, he's a criminal but is this really needed? Also, WTF the train compartment magically got separated AND ended up in jail?! WUT?

I'm sorry but can no one else see the collusion between the police and the robbers here? Why the hell is there a railway track leading to the jail, and how did the robbers' compartment get disconnected at this precise juncture? Like was Jason Bourne involved?

I'm sorry but this pro-state reporting doesn't fool me. What khabar li hain? I really hope Nani has an inventory of all that was robbed because I'm convinced the cops are in on it.

My niece's nani (my mom) is kanjoos. My nani is kanjoos. BUT #NotAllNanis OK?? Moreover, she just got robbed blind!! Is this really the time to remind her of her alleged stinginess?

Where the fuck will she get this paisa from given that she was robbed to the hilt just now? I mean, she's just had this horrible trauma and not only is the news including bullshit details about peacocks but also is mocking her??? And asking for money??? WTF?

(Also, I forgot to comment on the morr dancing in the jungle but SERIOUSLY HOW IS THAT RELEVANT? We are talking about a major crime here and you keep bringing up a bunch of birds behaving like birds during mating season. STFU please!)

I really feel that Nani has been terribly misrepresented here. She is made out to be some anti-sex campaigner for animals; she gets no sympathy for this traumatic crime and is instead mocked; and its likely the state orchestrated this logistically preposterous 'robbery'.

This is how desi society treats peacock sex. We want to pretend it doesn't exist, or we look to describe it as non-consensual abductions. SMH.
