Thread.
Hi, guys, IDK if anyone is bothered by the February 20th Teen Vogue confession from the genre" I once was for Bernie, but never more..." but in case you are I prepared an analysis showing this is a professional hit job. 1/?
She starts by saying she never heard of Bernie before. That's not unusual in itself, but later she mentions Bernie's "alignment with socialist values" as the main attraction. So we are to believe she is a young socialist but never heard of most progressive senator in the US. 2/?
Notice the use of the words "I was hooked." This is 100% Brock territory.
According to many dictionary definitions hooked means: "addicted"" unable to stop taking a drug" or "obsessed."
Her support was not rational, she says. 3/?
Next, NO SOCIALIST, no democratic socialist, no social democrat (like me) would describe what Bernie is proposing "radical."
We can attribute this sentence to Mr. Brock as well.
All Bernie is proposing is what other developed countries, poorer than us, already have. 4/?
Next - the author reminds everyone of Bernie's age and then reduces Bernie to a usueful instrument to thwart Trump. This is a sentence that is crafted to pretend-compliment Bernie, but is not rooted in 2016 primary reality. DNC was busy ELEVATING Trump and THWARTING Bernie. 5/?
I am not saying Isabella Gomez Sarmiento did not volunteer for Bernie in 2016, I have no idea if she did, I am saying she wrote that Teen Vogue article same way Melania Trump wrote her infamous speech.
Right after stating that Bernie's candidacy was a "much needed foil to the rising popularity of (…)Trump and his hateful platform" the author states that she is now REMORSEFUL for actively participating in Bernie's campaign. What? The propagadists run themselves in a corner. 7/?
In addition to everything the author can't count, 4 years ago, February 20th 2015, Bernie hasn't even announced yet for 2016 election. Perhaps it's one of those Freudian slips in which the author(s ?) subconsciously admit that they NEVER supported Bernie. 8/?
Next line ("boosting his image as a white savior figure") is a smear straight from 2016 playbook. I would like to remind you all that Brock APOLOGIZED to Bernie for the smears he spread in 2016. Bernie's focus is to build a movement and UPLIFT all voices. #NotMeUs 9/?
EVERY candidate first focuses on Iowa and New Hampshire, which happen to be predominantly white, BECAUSE that's where the first primaries take place. Only someone with an ulterior motive would single out one candidate. 10/?
The last sentence of the screenshot above is a true gem. The author managed to remind everyone that Bernie is "not a democrat" and is basically equating Bernie running for president with "taking up spaces that do not belong to him" Whaaat? Again a replay of 2016. 11/?
Notice a little gem within a gem, the use of expression "dead set on" - determined to the point of being stubborn. Not necessarily a negative expression, but In the context of Bernie "taking up spaces that do not belong to him" it becomes a strong condemnation of Bernie. 12/?
The article continues with a few more paragraphs of pure propaganda. Eg. it brings up Sanders' vote for FOSTA-SESTA (like 98 other senators, incl. other presidential candidates) in a paragraph that accuses him of " lack of solidarity on gender and race." 13/?
CODA. 1/? Paragraph that I just ignored, assuming it's a total fabrication. But perhaps Bernie DID say it, refering to anti-Semitism. If so, it's even more disgusting attack than I thought.
CODA 2/?
These " I was for Bernie, but" hit pieces have another thing in common in addition to content - they are HORRIBLY written. The goal is clearly to fit as many anti-Bernie tropes as possible. It is virtually impossible Teen Vogue employed that young person for her talent.
CODA 3/?
And yes, it's an obvious hit -piece, so is it worth time analyzing? Yes! We all FEEL something is a hit piece, but not everyone can explain why. I hope some will find this breakdown useful. This is meant to CORRUPT young minds. We have to fight it.
