1/ There are now enough votes in the Texas Senate to block Secretary of State David Whitley’s nomination.

Whitley has been under fire over a controversial voter citizenship review that was based on deeply flawed data.

2/ In January, Texas loudly announced that counties should check on the citizenship of 95,000 registered voters.

Then, Texas quietly told counties that many of the voters flagged don't belong on that list.

3/3 In order to be confirmed, Whitley needs two-thirds of votes of senators present when his confirmation vote comes up.

So if all 11 of these senators are on the floor, he doesn't have the votes to be confirmed.
