Mueller's office isn't recommending a specific sentence for Paul Manafort in his D.C. case, but it's clear they want a significant one. His "crimes continued up through the time he was first indicted in Oct. 2017 and remarkably went unabated even after indictment."
Mueller's office isn't yet taking a position on whether Manafort's D.C. sentence should be concurrent with the one that will be imposed in Virginia, but it reserves the right to do that later.
Mueller's office rattles through Manafort's many lies. Prosecutors say he "presents a grave risk of recidivism" whenever he gets out of jail.
Mueller's office says former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has "a hardened adherence to committing crimes."
Remember, the guideline range in Manafort's DC case - 17-22 years - is basically double the maximum sentence the judge can actually impose, which is 10 years. The government's memo is an argument that something quite near the maximum would be appropriate.
