While everyone is going nuts over the dining habits of female presidential candidates, let’s talk about the problems in Missouri and what #moleg is up to. This is going to be a longish thread. 1/12

Missouri is in dire need of Criminal Justice Reform. We are currently ranked 45th in the country. The primary drivers of this are high incarceration rates among adults and juveniles and ironically, higher crime rates. Here is what #MoDem is trying to do about it. 2/12

@DebLavender has introduced a bill to create Extreme Risk Order of Protection, which is essentially a version of Red Flag laws that have been working very well in the states that have implemented them. Rev. Dr. Alan Green also has proposed this. 3/12

@DebLavender On the other side of the problem, @Ellington_B has introduced numerous bills to address the Criminal Justice Reform on the incarceration side as well as racial profiling. @BruceFranksJr and Rev. Dr. Alan Green also have legislation pertaining to CJR. 4/12

@DebLavender @ellington_b @brucefranksjr There is also legislation to expunge some marijuana related arrests by Barbara Washington (@RNHCKS has a similar bill) and to offer a tax credit for businesses hiring felons for full-time and allowing discretion some mandatory minimum sentences by @RobertsforSTL. 5/12

@DebLavender @ellington_b @brucefranksjr @RNHCKS @RobertsforSTL I’d love to include the efforts of #MoGOP to address Criminal Justice Reform but unfortunately, their approach is to make more things illegal (I’ll get to that later) which is unlikely to reduce the crime rate or the inflated incarceration rates that have us at 45th. 6/12

@DebLavender @ellington_b @brucefranksjr @RNHCKS @RobertsforSTL If you’re sick of this, I have some bad news. Missouri is ranked 39th in Healthcare. Fortunately, our #moleg #MoDem are working on that. They are not going to gain traction without a lot of help from us. This means call your OWN reps and vote out ones who don’t listen. 7/12

@DebLavender @ellington_b @brucefranksjr @RNHCKS @RobertsforSTL @DebLavender , @PeterforMO , @CoraFaith4MO , @Martha4MO , @gcmitts and Jon Carpenter have all introduced bills to expand Healthcare coverage in Missouri. These bills range from full expansion under ACA to allowing people to buy into MO Healthnet. 8/12

They'd effectively end abortion at 6 weeks. Many pregnancies aren't detected by then and restrictions on abortion make it nearly impossible for women to access abortion in time. 10/12

His bill makes providing abortion a felony. There are also the pain-capable junk science restrictions and another prohibiting the sale of the morning after pill. 11/12

Children in poverty in Missouri exceeds 20%. #mogop is addressing this issue by introducing 2 bills to prohibit recipients of food assistance from buy pornography with their EBT cards. Really. 12/12
