Twenty-five years ago today, one of Meir Kahane's closest disciples (may his name be erased) walked into the Tomb of the Patriarchs/Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron and murdered 29 people at Ramadan prayers. (1)

A few days ago, Benjamin Netanyahu personally & intensively engineered a deal likely to put Kahane's remaining disciples in the Knesset and possibly the ruling coalition.
He did so in order to hold onto power even if indicted for massive corruption. (2)

Kahane created a photo negative of Judaism, labelling darkness "light." He sanctified hatred, revenge, oppression and murder. In place of the Torah's commandment to treat the stranger as an equal, he sought to expel Arabs from Israel. (3)

When Kahane got elected to the Knesset in 1984, every other party including the Likud boycotted him. The hall emptied when he spoke. The Knesset passed a law banning parties that incite to racism, and Kahane was barred from running again. (4)

Twenty five years ago, after Kahane's disciple followed his doctrine and murdered 29 human beings, the Israeli government outlawed his movement as a terror organization. (5)

Kahane's followers are despicable. What is more despicable is that Netanyahu, in his desperate attempt to stay in power, has declared them politically acceptable. (6)

Therefore, it is insufficient today to condemn the Kahanist party and the deal likely to put it in parliament. It is essential to condemn Netanyahu, by name, directly, for this travesty. (7/ends)
