A detailed thread by @NassrZB from #Hebron on the massacre committed inside Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the Palestinian city of Hebron in the occupied #WestBank in 1994.
On the 25th of February 1994 (15th day of the holy month of fasting for Moslems), Baruch Goldstein committed the massacre of the Ibrahimi Mosque in #Hebron during dawn prayers with the help of the Israeli occupation army.
Important points concerning the massacre:
1- Baruch Goldstein opened fire on a group of Palestinian worshippers with the full cooperation of the Israeli occupation army whuo did not expect him to be killed inside the mosque.
2- As soon as Goldstein opened fire on the worshippers during prayer, an Israeli occupation soldiers tossed at least one hand grenade in the midst of the worshippers.
3- Occupation soldiers sealed off all exits, leaving only one path for survivors to escape through.
4- Occupation soldiers then opened fire on any worshipper trying to flee the massacre through this path. They also shot at anyone trying to enter the mosque to help inured worshippers. 29 worshippers were slaughtered inside the mosque, in addition to inuring more than 200.
All Palestinian cities broke out in protest... dozens were killed.
A Hebronite resident, Nimmer Mujahid, and after being shot in the chest, was able to subdue and kill Goldstein using a fire extinguisher, after which Nimmer Mujahid succumbed to his wounds and died.
Directly after the massacre, the Israeli occupation army continued to peruse citizens who were transporting martyrs and the wounded in their civilian cars, the Occupation army killed more than 13 people in the streets of #Hebron.
Occupation army then dispatched further re-enforcements to the parameter of Al-Ahli Hospital; they shot at Palestinian youths rushing to give blood to save the lives of the severely injured worshippers.
4 young men were killed, including Ismaeel Qufaisha who had just donated his blood minutes before his martyrdom.
The Israeli occupation soldiers continued to pursue citizens on their way to the cemeteries during the funerals of those slaughtered.
After the funeral procession of Ala’a Al-Salayma reached the cemetery, occupation troops opened fire on the procession killing Mohammad Al-Salayma who had just finished burying Ala’a. Ala’a’s grave was re-opened, and Mohammad was buried next to him.
Israeli authorities forcibly shut down the entirety of the old city of Hebron for several months, the Mosque was divided between Moslems and Jews, 55% was turned into a Synagogue, and the remaining 45% for Moslems.
Now, Israeli occupation authorities imposes a complete ban of entry for Moslems during Jewish holidays, and allows settlers unfettered access to the entirety of the premises including those areas designated as Moslem worship areas.
After the massacre, scores of Palestinian families were forcibly evicted from the old city of Hebron. The Israeli occupation army also confiscated more than 1500 homes and shops which remain closed till today.
