The more you deal with bluetooth LE, the more you realize no one involved in the protocol or product design process thought about 20 people having 20 of the same bluetooth dildo in the same room and all needing to connect to only theirs somehow.

I refer to this as the "cam studio" problem in @buttplugio.

There are solutions to this, but they're not nice/universal.

Some toys allow you to rename them but that makes doing name filters in WebBluetooth difficult.

I'm also building in BTAddr white/blacklisting. :(

@buttplugio Some toys include the first 2-4 bytes of their BTAddr in their advertising name, which is kinda handy because then you can just use the name prefix...

That is, assuming you know the address of your device in the first place, which is almost never printed on the device itself.

I'm doing my first @buttplugio workshop later this month and the "figure out which toy is yours and how to keep everyone else from connecting to it" portion of this event is gonna be a real fun ice breaker huh.

@buttplugio And no, there's not a way to device filter at the mac address level when doing scans on WebBluetooth, possibly due to CoreBluetooth not returning that info? github.com/WebBluetoothCG…

So web browser gonna find ALL the buttplugs whether you like it or not.

@buttplugio For those curious, @buttplugio is trying to solve this in multiple ways. Letting users set up whitelisting/blacklisting via GUI, possibly change device names and make their own configurations. buttplug.io

@buttplugio Main concern there is people losing their config and forgetting what they named their toy, having to plan lots of support UX planned around this feature so it doesn't look like we bricked people's buttplugs.
