Full communism should never return & for many reasons. However, the ethos which prevailed within the Warsaw Pact countries at its best contained elements almost totally lacking in today’s western capitalist nations.

What MIGHT work for us in future?

At its height & earliest stages the communist ethos was one of hope, idealism & of solidarity. Hope for a better future & world peace, Idealism that imbued people w/ a selfless desire to see ALL succeed not just the few. These then engendered solidarity.
SOCIALISM vs. CAPITALISM

Western capitalism prizes individualism above all else. Margaret Thatcher said “There's no such thing as society”, only individuals working for themselves & their families. Socialism as a philosophy sets the bar far higher w/ far nobler aspirations.

I met Shyla last year in a meeting. Her father had dreamt of making her a doctor. But his dreams drowned in the sewer he had died in. This is her story. (ruralindiaonline.org/articles/my-mo…)
Ten years later, Shyla is almost close to realising her father’s dream. She is doing her nursing course, and she needs help. As a society that sent her father down the sewers, I think it is our responsibility to see that she becomes a nurse.
When I met her again last month, Shyla was exuding confidence. “I will soon be a nurse and if you need anything, call me over” she told me and i cant wait.
Shyla’s course fee for third year comes close to Rs 1 lakh. I already have someone pledging Rs 10,000.

2/The Economist's articles each contain some useful background knowledge about a field of econ, and they are better than the Standard British Econ Critique that gets repeatedly dished out (bloomberg.com/view/articles/…)
