Books should be about MAJOR interactions of people who don't mention texting because maybe they live in caves and don't know what phones are even. But there's a university in the cave. And one of the cave profs fucks a precocious young cave student. This reminds him of youth and-
Look buddy, if you handed any of the characters in MY book a phone, they'd probably try and eat it or fuck it is what I'm saying. And then start a doomed affair with it. Which ends up reminding them of the days when the cave was, well, it was a young cave once. During the war.
I'm sure you wanted more Snapgrams and jibjabs in my book "Aristotle's Cardigan" but maybe I was a BIT too busy articulating the exquisite tension between an upper-middle-class theatre director and her husband, a slightly *more* upper-middle-class creative writing teacher.
To be clear, you can write very good and fine novels about all those things - especially the cave university I'd imagine - but to take issue with an author BECAUSE they write about THE PRESENT MOMENT WE LIVE IN, you will sound out-of-touch and patronising.
