FIST OF FANGS NIGHT!
FANG ALMOST DIED!
FANG DIED!
FANG SAVED BY BUGS!
Stay tuned as Fang regales the tale of how a simple oversight almost took the life of the hero!
We return to the graveyard where fang resided with party. Fang got loot from hole! But wait! Where is Dirc?!? Dirc had disappeared! On tree, a note hangs from dagger. Theo and Fang look at it: "White Sword. --Dirc" [RL Dirc is sick so we 3 man this session].
Without dirc, the group continues on, coming to the base of a lighthouse. Zieg, our tank, knocks on the door with the hammer. No answer, so he kicked it in. FIRST BATTLE! MANKUNS [sp?] were ready for the party of 3. Arrows fly! Eldritch bolts flew! Tank taunts second fishman!
Second one books it, literally pissed outta it's mind. Fang misses, Zieg hits, and Theo gets the final blow. Two dead, the party ascends the tower's spiral staircase. We come up to the top... there's no light. It's a campfire with some cooking utensils... and a LARGE BELL.
This bell has been tormenting the mainland for years. It's ringing bothered the villagers and lured many a victim to the island. Before we could deal with it, however, a ghost appears. Theo recognizes it: It was the original monk that was part of the monastary... 300 years ago.
This ghostly man walks forward, with zieg blocking his path. The ghost goes around and we can see ghostly tentacles flailing from the body. The face was nothing of human expression: gaunt and motionless. It reaches up for the rusted chains... and begins to pull down on them.
At this point, the bell starts ringing once more. Fang drops down to the floor, covering his ears as the loudness overwhelms his senses [Cat ears, pretty sensitive]. Theo and Zeig stood upright and just as sudden as the ghost came, the ghost goes back and disappears in the spot.
The party gathers their senses and decided: The bell has to be disarmed, if the mainland is to know peace. Taking respective positions, Theo raises his hand up and casts a blast at the top of the chains that hold the bell up. The shot lands and the bell goes crashing down....
... down through the wooden floor and down to the ground floor. When the bell hit the floor, it's loud sound temporarily deafened our paladin's right side, while left was okay. When we went to go back to the hatch, Fang spots another hatch... where the ghost used to stand.
Zieg and fang open the hatch: inside was a healign potion and a pouch. Zieg gives the pouch to fang and he opens it: it's money! 1g and 12s. Fang adds it to his main pouch and tucks free pouch away. Group begins to descend the stairs... until they come to a broken part in them.
Zieg, our athletic companion, easily jumps the 8 ft distance. Stays on other side to catch theo and fang. Fang gets idea! Gets grappling hook and rope out. Ties rope end around Theo. Mage hand takes Hook end to Zieg. Safety measure, incase theo falls. Theo barely makes it.
Zieg catches Theo and set him down behind him. Fang's turn! Walls too smooth for climbing over. Fang uses Feline Agility, to boost his jump! TOO MUCH! Almost overshots, digging his claws into Zieg's leg [4 damage max] and held on until zeig picked him up. We continue down safely.
Party leaves lighthouse. Fang: "Lighthouse with no light but a bell? Weird place..." The group moves north to the building next door. Zieg bangs on down with warhammer. No answer. Kicks door open. MURKANS! MORE! Battle again.... cept Zieg blocks theo and fang. Cant free attack.
Eventually, zeig side steps slightly to give us an opening to fire into. Fang deals with left murkan while theo helps with blasts. Second murkan gets between zeig and us. Time to use swords! Fang rolls low... then rolls nat 1. Accidently stabs zeig! Fang sorry.
Eventually, both murkan die. Fang and group check out rooms. Side rooms were small, personal with shelf and bunks. books in languages fang can't read. Same in other room. Books, Shelf, Bunk. Nothing. Return to main room. Theo sees book on floor. Few pages still good.
Page tells of monk who was doing research and experiments that were not cool with the council. Called upon by the council, the monk would only speak in crypic language. Rest of pages were too damaged to continue reading. At this point, it has gotten late, so we do long rest.
PARTY HITS LEVEL 3!
Paladin goes devotion!
Warlock goes Shadow Book!
Fang goes full Hunter!
The next day, well rested and improved, the party goes deeper into the monastery.
First room, this time door just kicked in. ITS RATS! OF UNUSUAL SIZE! THREE OF THEM! TO BATTLE!
Initiative! Theo gets blast off on left rat. Fang holds up arrow. Barbs start sprouting on the arrowhead and he draws his bow and fires the arrow. Dozens of thorns split out as the arrow enters the room. HAIL OF THORNS! Arrow kills Middle rat, thorns finish off left rat.
[At this point, I must tell listeners that this will get hilarious. You'll find out soon enough.]
We finish last rat and enter room. It was storehouse of foods long gone bad. We move on. We come across door. Locked. Fang uses thieves tools. Lock too stubborn.
Zeig tries....
Zeig rolls a nat 1. Zieg's hammer goes flying as he raises it to swing, and clocks Theo in the head. Dazed but not out of combat. Zeig recovers hammer and tries again. Busts door open. Big room, has hearth. It hasn't been used. Door ahead is broken apart. Door to right, isn't.
We go through door on right. Come to large hall. Many doors. We start SWAT-kicking them open. MORE RATS! At this point, the battles will be pretty straight forward, except for zeig. Some rats nat 20 him, some nat 1s had by all. Zieg ends up with low hp after third room.
Then, barely standing, Zieg disappears. Everything goes black for fang. Fang cannot see. Meanwhile, for Zieg, this huge, angry man wielding a large hammer appears before Zeig. This... is Thor. Yes, you read this right. Thor proceeds to look at Zeig, and clocks him with hammer.
Zeig goes flying out of the room and thuds against the far wall. At this point, vision comes back to theo and fang. Fang heard thud while blind and turns to see his vision clear to his tankadin lying on the floor. Fang comes to his aid, ready with potion...
Zeig isn't hurt. Infact, Zeig looks like he's unscratched at all. He was restored and his hammer seems.. heavily, to Zeig. Zeig doesn't mind and we move on, to large double doors. Zeig pulls one side open and theo pulls other side... more murkans! BATTLE!
Zeig takes point, as usual and fang and theo each take a side in the back. Fang launches arrow and hits murkan on right. Theo blasts left murkan. Zeig rushes in and hits with hammer. LIGHTING SPARKS AND ARCS ON CONTACT. Zeig wields... zappy hammer, now? Everyone surprised.
We proceed to kill the second murkan and enter the kitchen. We catch our breath around the table and the brew in the mugs smells familiar... Zeig takes a swig... ITS HAG SHOTS! Gains boon for little while after drinking it. After inspecting his hammer, Zeig has fang & theo try it
Fang cannot lift it. Theo tries. Theo cannot lift it. Wondering what the hell happened to Zeig's hammer, Theo ritual casts identify while fang wanders the room. Fang sees crate. Tries to open. BIG CRATE. Can't get in unless diving in. Fang asks Zeig to hold lid. Fang climbs in.
Fang finds many things! silver daggers! green potion! rope! torch! Bottle! Tosses rope and torch out, Fang packs the rest in his backpack and climbs out. Lid closed, fang gathers rope and torch, packing them as well. Theo ready to identify stuff. Starts with hammer.
Hammer is called Enigma. It is the only one of it's kind, in any plane of existance. Only zeig can wield it. Apparently does lightning damage and is heavy. Fang presents potion and daggers to Theo. Daggers are just decoration, but valuable. Potion is Climbing! Fang gives to Zeig.
Fang packs the daggers away and we take short rest. Having become well rested and recovered, fang and friends backtrack to hearth room. We go through broken door. Many halls, we take hall to right. Leads to barracks. Dead, moldy corpses in far back. This where fang screws up.
Party approaches the bodies, ready to burn them. Fang disturbs the body on right. Spores come out. Zeig and theo are fine but fang... becomes infected. It is deadly mold. It is now a race against time for Fang. We make haste to search the rest of the floor. Find puzzle statues.
Before group leaves, theo recovers book on burning body with mage hand. puts out singed cover but it's mostly okay. Pages tell of observer who comments about Monk. Talks about curiosity not being a sin, but how far does one go for it?
Can't solve statue puzzles immediately. Lightning barrier blocks entry to library. We leave for now. Fang is coughing as we follow another hall around. Fang hates architech who built this floor. Came across spiral stairway going down. We can't go down, one path left.
Fang and party come to very large doors, at end of last path. Zeig opens door. Big room, pillars, altar... and VILLAGERS! Bound and tied up. Party tries to go for them... AMBUSH! group couldn't spot the murkans in time. Murkans get free round. Battle!
Zeig dodges and maneuvers himself between the boss and the villagers, after mini boss thunderwaves the group. Only theo gets hit from it. Guards come up to theo and fang, only one for each. Theo misty steps to back of room, by altar. Fang disengages with feline agility.
Fang takes spot opposite of Theo. Guards confused, they turn around and go after zeig. Zeig, at this point, had casted sanctuary on Fang, to help protect him and then cast shield of faith on himself. Miniboss tries to shocking touch Zeig. Fails once [Dodge] & hits for little dmg.
Fang marked the first guard and started pelting him with arrows while theo whips out a witchbolt on the big bad, shocking him while zeig swung his glorious new warhammer against the boss. Another round. Theo zaps with witchbolt, finishing off miniboss. Fang finishes guard off.
Zeig frees the villagers, all 3 of them. They begged the group not to leave them. Fang is to the side coughing, feeling the mold creep further, slowly. Fang agrees to leave this place. Mainland may have someone that can cure him. Group races to longboat. Set out for mainland.
Fog and high winds fought against the longboat but zeig guides the boat to the mainland. Fang, at this point, is slowly fading. Accepts Zeigs offer to be carried. Carried to Chapel. Priest there could not help. finds out we came from elmer island, yells at us to go.
Zeig takes fang to inn, asks innkeeper about place for fang to rest. Pointed to special isolation room for people who are sick. Meanwhile, Theo runs to general store, asks merchant for anything to cure diseases. Could not help. Theo races to inn. [they're next door to each other]
At this point, fang is laid down in the bed by zeig. Fang, through more coughing fits, tells him to take all his treasures. Fang doesn't value wealth but isn't against using it to save his life. Zeig obliges. Meanwhile, theo talks to trader father. Tells plight of Fang.
It is daughter who speaks up. Talks about insects on winter trees, on beach... at elmer island. Upon realization, Theo races upstairs and tells Zeig. Zeig, once more, gathers up Fang and a race to the boat, to return to elmer island! winds and rough waves slowed the party...
The party reaches the beach and when they land, they see Fang fall out of the boat. He isn't moving. The mold has taken over most of his body. Zeig and Theo fear the worst. Fang was dead... or so they thought.
A burst of movement, Fang slowly starts clawing his way up to the trees, where the insects made their nests. 20.... 15.... 10... 5.... Finally, slumping against the tree, Fang looks back at his friends and closes his eyes... as the insects begin to descend upon Fang...
Through sheer determination or divine fate, Fang barely made it to the cure. The last few drops of energy gone, as the insects begin to feast on fang, devouring the mold from his body... and saving his life. The party breathes deep. Zeig helps remove fangs tunic and mask, to help
Zeig and Theo realized several things, as the armor and mask came off:
Despite the masculine features given off by his hunter mask and how he kept his hair, Fang was quite pretty... for a tabaxi male.
Second, heavy scarring showed on the front of Fang's neck, like someone ate him
Lastly, deep, long claw marks are dragged down Fang's chest. Combined with the neck scarring, this was something that would've normally killed anyone else. Fang has new questions to answer, but for now... he is safe... and he lives once more... next time, ON FANGS AND FRANDS!
