There’s a rocket about to launch! 🚀
This is a demo launch for the Crew Dragon — if it works, it will soon carry people! (No crew on this launch.)
Gorgeous @SpaceX launch! Crew capsule (not currently carrying humans) on its way toward @Space_Station; Stage 1 rocket landed flawlessly on the platform!
To emphasize the importance of this: it’s a @SpaceX - @NASA collaboration to start flying crew up to the station on the Crew Dragon rocket. At the moment, since the retirement of the Shuttle, Russia’s Soyuz is the ONLY way to get there.

One of the proposals in the “Green New Deal” is to build high-speed train lines so flying is less necessary. This is not a radical proposal. In Japan, the Shinkansen covers distance approx LA-San Francisco in 2.5 hrs. At peak, trains every 10 minutes. The line was built in 1964.
The Shinkansen network has expanded, of course. It now has lines that cover something close to 3,000 km, and it moves around 160 million people a year. At up to 320 km/hr. No seatbelt light. No turbulence. Stations right in city centers. Just imagine what travel could be here.
The population density of Japan is similar to that of the Boston-Washington Corridor. In Europe, smaller pop densities and larger distances also work for high speed trains. There are obstacles to better networks here, but they’re not invincible and they’re well worth fighting.

Last week, I declined to give a comment to a journalist about a story he was writing about another astrophysicist. Today, a quote from me appeared in his story---drastically mischaracterized, and taken out of context from another source.
I won't link to the article. But in general, if you see an article quoting someone as having told a different outlet something, it's a good idea to click through to the source of the quote and see what they actually said, and in what context.
As a side note: based on what the journalist told me when I asked him his angle on the piece, I had a feeling he might mischaracterize anything I told him, which is why I decided not to comment. What I did NOT expect was that he'd also mischaracterize things I told someone else.

If you can see the Moon tonight, over the next few hours it’s going to start looking pretty awesome. This #LunarEclipse starts really getting going a few minutes from now and gets to maximum in a little over an hour. A total #LunarEclipse is when the Moon, Earth, and Sun line up perfectly enough that the Moon is entirely in the Earth’s shadow. Here’s a handy graphic:
When the Moon starts to enter the Earth’s shadow, it’ll look like part of the Moon is going dark, in contrast to the section just outside the shadow, still brightly lit. But when it’s ENTIRELY in the shadow, you’ll see something else, much cooler. #LunarEclipse

Real life Iron Man, aka @elonmusk has big plans for humanity.

He appears to be invested in a bunch of random ventures; rockets, $TSLA cars, tunnels..

But I think it's all connected. He's doing all of this with a very simple goal: the long-term survival of humanity.

A thread:
1/ #climatechange or #GlobalWarming is a huge threat. 14% of ghg emissions are from transportation, and 25% from electricity and heat generation. This is where @Tesla comes in. By electrifying our vehicle fleet, we can already eliminate a big chunk of emissions.
2/ The Semi will probably save more CO2 than all other #Tesla vehicles combined. Trucks drive an insane amount of miles compared to cars, & they pull a lot of cargo.

Second part of this is the energy generation & storage with Tesla Energy. Greenify the grid 👉 less CO2 emissions

I don't know about elections. But last week in Rajasthan - I have heard innumerable stories about small businessmen just wrapping up their companies. All impacted by #Demo and #GST. You guys can make a mockery of people's problems - but truth is people have been impacted.
My husband and I were in a car discussing GST and Modi along with Gujarat election - our driver suddenly says - Are Modi jee ko toh bas karna hai 'Mere Pyaare Bhaiyon aur behenon'. Madame humara mehendi ka business tha - band kar diya. Ab gaadi chala rahe hain.
My husband's cousin starts chatting up GST and how our company is handling filing. I gave him a lowdown on how we have hired a firm to manage.

He says - For TWENTY TWO days no business happened for us.
