Late to this but it’s very interesting. I covered indyref1 and remember the political bind SNP got into by proposing sharing the £. Gave Westminster the power to veto. When @George_Osborne said no, Yes camp had nowhere to go.

New currency avoids that trap.
Needless to say it creates new problems, like heightening the financial uncertainty of Yes (which was so impactful in 2014).

But seems to me that key Unionist attack line - you won’t know what money you’ll have in your pocket on Day 1 - will be lessened.
(Of course I’ll happily defer to infinitely better informed colleagues in Holyrood press pack. But feels like a big switch in position from SNP after mulling over what went wrong last time.)
