Alternate headline: Brexiteers seek friendly journalist to write up so called peace offer which is nothing of the kind, and hope to gain support for no deal by sounding apparently reasonable while knowing EU can't agree to these demands.
All of which is to say there's nothing reported that marks any change of position whatsoever. Inside we find that Selmayr has taken over from Merkel as the EU leader supposedly going to give us a deal.

And so nothing changed.
Turns out a number of others have the same thoughts about this story...

Couldn't possibly be the UK Government's fault for agreeing a deal Parliament wouldn't agree, continuing to insist the EU cross their most fundamental red line, wasting time against all informed advice to try to get the EU to move when they won't etc
In Brussels and across the EU they will be thinking this...
And a reminder of just how many problems of the PM's own making are closing in on her - non publication of tariffs so we can't possibly be ready for no-deal, future trade agenda in difficulty, failure to listen to what and was not possible in Brussels...

Just a joint work stream? Not even with timelines, or any other commitments? This is the most basic of the basic which should have been agreed months ago
And then blame the EU for not going back on what was agreed in December 2017? And which we were repeatedly told in recent weeks?
Feels like nothing less than the PM blaming the EU for her own negotiating incompetence

I seriously start to wonder if next week is when the PMs Brexit plans and possibly her position become untenable. Exhibit 1, possibly reaching the end of the road in finding a backstop solution acceptable to EU and her own party
Exhibit 2, the centrepiece of the UKs post EU trade agenda, a US trade deal, coming under fire from her own side, given the well known issues around food
Exhibit 3, the by now vocal warnings from across the car industry about the impacts of no deal, long known in private but now becoming increasingly discussed

1) 1984 by George Orwell
2) A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
3) Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Others can be read to contain anti-war messages

I haven't read all of them. I expect Vonnegut's "The Sirens of Titan" to be anti-war.

On the flip side, The Left Behind series is fanatically sectarian hate speech celebrating mass killing. One wonders if PBS would have allowed Mein Kampf or The Turner Diaries to make the list.
