I shouldn't wade in (or maybe I will and turn off Twitter!)

Leaving aside yesterday's farrago, I have had some contact with Laura over the past year and found her to be open and seemed to want to listen.

I also get sense she isn't always listened to by the rest of Corbyn's team
Obviously, though, if Corbyn's office wants to avoid the impression that it is interfering with the disciplinary process, it shouldn't be sending people in to interfere!

If that's what's happening.

Who knows?

What a mess
I count Laura as one of the younger and less ideologically rigid figures.

I think that's how she is seen by people in the movement who I see as more progressive and open-eyed about antisemitism

But, ultimately, decision-making comes from the older, more rigid generation.
I know people will respond by saying "look at what she did here!" and "what about this tweet!" and "if she's progressive why has she stayed?"

They may be right - but I am speaking from personal dealings with her and I wanted to put it out there as she's getting a lot of abuse
To be absolutely clear, whatever her personal attributes, Laura would be a terrible choice to lead the disciplinary process. What Labour's disciplinary process needs is to be as far away from Corbyn's office as possible!
This probably isn't the time for philosophising but I think there is often a kind of conspiracy theory about institutions, that they are acting with one controlling mind or everyone within them is somehow the same or evil (if the institution does bad things)
The depressing reality is that institutions are just individuals, some good, some bad, some just middling. I have reached that realisation repeatedly in my legal career, where I have seen hundreds of institutions up close and in their ugly banality (to subtweet Arendt)
That's what Macpherson was on about with institutional racism - that institutions can sort of slip into terrible places without anyone really wanting it or perhaps even realising it.

I think that is what is happening to Labour
