Seriously. Fuck this guy. I should be thankful to live in this country? Let me educate you on some stats, my boi.
The life expectancy in the US is lower than many first world countries: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c…
I can expect to die at a lower age because I live here. If you're female, chances are you'll live a little longer than males, but not by much. Peep the source links on this one.
Universal health care is available in practically every other developed country other than the United States.
"probably making more..."
I'm sure he's not aware that I grew up in the Midwest, which is fine.
The year that I graduated college was 2008. Guess what else happened in 2008?
......
The financial crisis!!!
It was basically the worst time to try and start a career.
I had zero savings at the time, no retirement saved up, and the job that I had working at a pizza joint paid minimum wage.
I had to basically come up with some brilliant idea on my own because no places were hiring. My first salary job paid the equivalent to min. wage. At a bank
I did shows on the internet for free for two years before I made ANY money off of them. And then, it wasn't profitable until later on. I had to live at my mom's hour for a year saving up so I could follow my dream. I'm not embarrassed by that fact.
Living in the bay area does have it's benefits. People pay you more, but if you're self employed, like I am, the taxes in CA do diminish that ability to grow your income.
The median income in San Francisco is $98,961. I don't make anything near that.
I can't buy a house because they are so expensive out here. But I live here by choice because of the opportunities that I have with my job. I'm lucky my landlord hasn't priced me out of the market, which she technically could have last year but she likes us too much.
As a security and privacy advocate, I'm glad I live here because our federal laws allow me to criticize the government and our privacy laws, but I'd probably be better off in a country that isn't a part of the Five Eyes.
As a citizen, and someone who has traveled to other countries and seen how happy folks are across the pond (seriously, look up World Happiness Report and Rankings), and has experienced first hand how a healthy country treats their citizens, yes, my dear, I can complain.
It is completely unfair to compare my life or conditions to someone else when I only share maybe 40% of my life online. You know barely anything about my life problems, health, income, family, or work life.
So, am I thankful I live here? I'm thankful my parents gave me life and that my dad was in the military. I'm thankful I've moved around and had the experiences I've had. It's made me a better person for it.
Here's the important part:
Since I am a citizen of this country - where I've lived in 7 states and visited countless others, where I've paid my bills and taxes, where I've gotten parking tickets and lost loved ones - I am allowed to complain about it.
I vote with my wallet and I vote with my pen. I rally against things I disagree with and am vocal about supporting ideals I do agree with. I will be vocal when I feel that a bill had set me back, especially if that bill wouldn't have been experienced in another country.
I love my job. I consider it a dream job. But following a dream does take it's toll. Last night I was working until 2am, for example. And I'm up again to record today. But I love it. I do something different every day and I keep learning.
The tweet he sent sounds more like resent directed at me. And he's pissed that I have the AUDACITY to complain even though my life is apparently perfect in his eyes?
No one has a perfect life. Like I said, y'all don't see everything.
Also, not a celebrity. Get that notion out of your head.
