@EmmMacfarlane Let’s count the ways that Harper affected Canada
1. He showed disdain for parliamentary rules and procedures and even lied in HOC.
2. He prorogued parliament twice in order not to face the animosity of HOC
3. He restricted access to information on a scale hitherto unheard of. (1)
@EmmMacfarlane 4. SH muzzled scientists preventing them from presenting results that were inconvenient.
5. MOST egregiously he closed at least 16 research libraries that contained irreplaceable data on environment & had irreplaceable data thrown on dumpsters and burned.

@EmmMacfarlane 6. SH reversed environmental protections and essentially withdrew Canada from the Kyoto agreement
7. He promoted harsher penalties for young offenders and increased funding for prisons while reducing funding for rehabilitation programs.
@EmmMacfarlane 8. He reduced funding for Status of Women Canada and aboriginal programs.
9. He reduced funding for all arts programs and the CBC (philistine)
10. He cut corporate taxes while doing nothing for lower income families.
@EmmMacfarlane 11. SH broke campaign finance rules, his acolytes went so far as to direct voters to the wrong polling stations if they were thought to be #LPC supporters.
12. His worst and most egregious actions are reported in various newspapers at the time.

@EmmMacfarlane However you look at the SH party that obliterated the old Conservative party, it had become a party of right wing xenophobes. Scheer is not going to be different. His reasons for wanting to govern Canada are hidden in the mists as he knows his actual policies will not gain favour
@EmmMacfarlane That someone shut in an ivory tower pontificating on the constitution and politics in general should be so removed from the actuality of Harper’s legacy is astonishing. Yes that’s you Emmett.
@EmmMacfarlane SH destroyed (thankfully temporarily) Canadians sense of democracy. He made all decisions, countered his ministers opinions and made life miserable for anyone who disagreed with him. His cabinet was afraid of him.
@EmmMacfarlane PMJT & #LPC are in a mess at the moment but I’d state forcefully that this is because JT chose intelligent, strong-minded ministers who’d stand up to him as JWR & JP are currently doing. True democracy is messy. Maybe PMO stepped over a line but at least they were not silenced.
@EmmMacfarlane The best outcome would be for a Liberal retreat where JWR and JP were allowed to vent and hopefully a solution could be found that satisfied them and did not tear the #LPC apart. It’s very unlikely there was not some fault on both sides.
