At some point we stopped asking a very fundamental philosophical question: What is the government and what is it supposed to do? Our Founders thought the government’s job was to protect and ensure liberty. People today seem to think it’s job is to protect comfort and lifestyle
If you hold the latter view, something like a mandated paid family leave program makes sense. It would make our lives easier, so the government should give it to us.
But if you hold the former view, you may agree that paid family leave is nice even while maintaining that the government has no business being involved in the issue in any way, shape, or form.
