Panel on Landing Bitcoin on the Moon with @_JustinMoon_ @pierre_rochard and @JackMallers #MITBitcoinExpo
You don't really need to know anything to start using Bitcoin, you should just buy $20 worth (not your life savings) and start playing with it. Using and interacting with Bitcoin is the best way to learn.
The hardest thing for Merchants using Bitcoin is price volatility. Another big challenge is goat on ramps, but there is excitement from grayish industries like marijuana for a solution that can't get shut down arbitrarily.
Economic Activity will go to the most efficient settlement network, so if there is sufficient liquidity so a more liquid Bitcoin will become more widely used.
The other big roadblock is a mental barrier to digital payments in general (less so in China with WeChat), and just stigma around Bitcoin. ETF approval and similar moves will make it more socially acceptable.
Lindy effect should kick in gradually as people get more used to seeing it pop up over and over and there is better and better education.
Good example of education is @square and how they launched BTC in the Cash app.
One of the biggest misconceptions is around how hard it is to run a full node.
A lot of people think it takes specialized hardware which is understandable as Satoshi assumed full nodes and miners would be synonymous.
Also many people don't realize you can prune a node so it takes less HD space or simply lack sufficient bandwidth to do the initial sync.
We should also do some UX things like using TOR by default on full node implementations that will make it more private.
.@_JustinMoon_ realized from teaching his BTC coding bootcamp that it was easier to convince Bitcoin people to learn software development than vice versa.
It's much easier than people think to get to the point where you can contribute in some meaningful way and experience of contributing is super exciting and intoxicating.
LND is similar to Bitcoin in that Lindy Effect as it sticks around, it will get more and more traction and open source contribution.
.@JackMallers thinks first use case for LND will be improving market efficiency in a way that is invisible to end user.
