NEW: Roger Stone's response is in to the judge's Qs about his book and compliance with her gag order. His lawyers dispute they raised the issue to get attention for the book, apologize for confusion re: timing, and insist there will be "waning publicity" assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765…
Stone's lawyers wrote: "Having been scolded, we seek only to defend Mr. Stone and move ahead without further ado." assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765…
Here's background on the book that Roger Stone recently re-released with a new introduction (with language about Mueller that even his lawyers say would run afoul of the gag order) that's gotten him into trouble with his judge: buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…
There are four exhibits attached to Stone's filing. In the first, his lawyers discuss whether the book intro might violate the gag order that had just been entered hours earlier: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765…

"maybe the publisher can black out the pages and say pursuant to the order"
The second exhibit features Stone's publishing agreement for the re-released book, and emails back and forth negotiating the book deal and figuring out the text and title assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765… They redact any info about how much money Stone earned from it
In an email chain in January about the rollout of Stone's book, his publisher writes: "We can send copies to all U.S. Senators or you can hand them out."
Here's a thread on Feb. 15 — a few days before Stone posted the Instagram pic that started all of this — where Stone and his publisher are discussing the book rollout, and Stone expresses concern about doing TV: "Recognize that the judge may issue a gag order any day now"
The third exhibit is screenshots of Stone's social media posts promoting the book assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765…
The fourth exhibit is emails between Stone's lawyer and the publisher as they scramble to get info. Stone's lawyer: "I need this immediately. This is not a some made up emergency."
assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5765… The publisher also writes that the book is "not selling particularly well"
The judge had ordered Stone to detail "his efforts to come into compliance with the Court’s rulings." The question now is, will this be enough. Stone is due back in court on Thursday for a status conference.
