George Eustice MP on @BBCr4today "the EU would not even negotiate a trade deal with the UK until after we have left". An outright lie. EU proposed (and UK accepted) a sequential negotiation - withdrawal settled before future relationship. This was meant to start December 2017.
This is SUCH a plain and public fact, discussed at such length on @BBCr4today at the time, by the very same interviewers, it is simply astounding that an assertion like this can be left unchallenged. It is a failure of basic journalism.

The fact is, this attitude is prevalent, not only among Labour supporters, but within Labour leadership. There are many who think the chaos caused by Brexit will be some sort of opportunity for a purer form of socialism than is available while in the EU.

For no-deal to be an effective threat, one central condition must be met: it must be a CREDIBLE threat. And no-deal simply is not. UK preparations are just not advanced enough. Hell, preparations are not even advanced enough to leave WITH a deal, let alone without. 2/9
The PM knows this, that’s why she’s dropped her “no deal is better than a bad deal” nonsense. MPs know this, that’s why they’ve ruled it out. The Chancellor of the Exchequer knows it, that’s why he wink-wink-nudge-nudges “it’ll never happen” to business. 3/9

Here’s the problem with May’s concept of #Brexit in a single extract from her speech. “Brexit does not belong to Parliament. It belongs to the whole country. It belongs to the people who voted for it and want to see it implemented, so we can move on to a more prosperous future.”
Only the people who voted for Brexit are NOT the whole county. The 16 million who voted Remain are also the country. The people who abstained are also the country. The youth who was deemed ineligible is also the country. The migrants who were disenfranchised are also the country.
This is why “Remoaners” like me have not “accepted” Brexit and will never accept it. This is why the UK, with three weeks to go, still cannot tell the EU whatbit wants with any clarity. This is why May’s approach commands no support - and no respect - in the House of Commons.

Take this for example, ditch #EU regulation and replace it in order to reach a trade deal with the US. They will have us for breakfast, forcing further deregulation and acceptance of harmful agri-products. Industry don’t necessarily want it and in services they will squeeze us./2
This; how, what and when? @DavidDavisMP has been Secretary of State for 2 years and hasn’t come up with any substantial and viable proposals, as the technology doesn’t exist. Neither has he strongly engaged with the #EU27 to work this out due to lack of internal HMG agreement. /3

1. As much as the government has no clue what it is doing with Article 50, the media shares their basic incomprehension.
2. It has been spelled out countless times that the post-Brexit EU trade deal is not negotiated until we have formally left.
3. Article 50 only takes into account the future relationship. We can negotiate a temporary framework but that is not the final deal.
