North Carolina residents who are unable to pay fines & fees associated with traffic tickets may have their driver's licenses revoked completely, making it hard for them to get to work, school & otherwise provide for themselves & their families. We’re suing bit.ly/2Ch5sIV

Seti Johnson's driver's license was revoked for unpaid traffic tickets in 2017. He had to use money allocated for rent in order to pay the $700 he owed before his license could be reinstated. He was unable to pay the court costs & provide for his family. bit.ly/2O3i6ju
“No one should have to live with the burden of their license being revoked, and all the expenses that come with that, simply because they don’t have any money. I’d previously fallen behind on my rent & sacrificed the needs of my children just to keep my license.” — Seti Johnson
When Marie Bonhomme-Dicks got a traffic ticket for speeding in 2017, she was sentenced to pay $388. The courtroom clerk told her the full amount was due within 40 days of her conviction, but she could not afford to pay that amount. bit.ly/2CgGlFT
“I have been donating plasma to have enough money to meet my son and grandsons’ basic needs. My driver’s license was revoked once before, and it took me several years to pay off the fines, penalties, and court costs.” — Marie Bonhomme-Dicks
Nichelle Yarborough’s driver’s license was revoked because she is unable to pay $221 in fines, penalties & court costs related to a ticket issued in 2008. Often, she cannot take her baby to medical appointments because she is without transportation. bit.ly/2HgHq4G
“I would pay my traffic fines, penalties, and court costs if I could, but I do not have the money to do so. As the sole caretaker of my four children, two with intellectual disabilities, I spend my limited resources on trying to meet their needs.” — Nichelle Yarborough
We are asking that North Carolinians’ driver’s licenses be reinstated if they’ve been suspended for failure to pay fines, fees & court costs. We hope to have a decision by April 1. bit.ly/2Ch5sIV
