Senate passes resolution to end #US support for #Saudi-led war in #Yemen
The approval puts Congress on a collision course with Donald Trump in an unprecedented rebuke of his foreign policy. theguardian.com/us-news/2019/m…
“Lawmakers have never before invoked the decades-old War Powers Resolution to stop a foreign conflict, but they are poised to do just that in the bid to cut off US support for a war that has triggered a humanitarian catastrophe.”
The measure was co-sponsored by Senator Bernie Sanders and the Utah Republican Mike Lee. Next, it will move to the Democratic-controlled House, where it is expected to pass. “The bottom line is that the United States should not be supporting a catastrophic war led by a despotic regime with an irresponsible foreign policy,” Sanders said on Wednesday from the Senate floor. He said a vote in favor of the measure would “begin the process of reclaiming our constitutional authority by ending United States involvement in a war that has not been authorized by Congress and is unconstitutional”.

I am extremely worried about an attack on a mosque(s) on the scale of those in #ChristChurch here in the #US where anti-Muslim hate & Islamophobia have been growing for yrs. Trump has continued not invented it. An arsonist set my brother’s mosque in the Midwest on fire in 2012.
The arsonist struck on a Sunday just hours after my nieces and nephews had been at the mosque with other children for Sunday school.

It is Friday and if the #Christchurch Al Noor mosque shooting happened during Friday congregational prayers, then it would be full of worshippers. Len Peneha says he saw a man dressed in black enter and then heard dozens of shots, followed by people running from mosque in terror.

ALQST, a London-based #Saudi rights group, said the women were charged under the kingdom's cybercrime law, which stipulates prison sentences ranging from one to 10yrs. The accusations are related to human rights work & communications with "hostile entities", ALQST said on Twitter

Yemen suffers the greatest humanitarian conflict today – including a record-breaking cholera outbreak and devastating bombardment by bomber jets that are fueled by the US.
Critics are calling for the US to end its support to this genocidal Saudi assault. Sure. But…this ignores the very roots of how the Saudi kingdom itself came into being.

We all saw this coming when Trump bragged about his multi-hundred billion dollar arms deal with the Saudis, shortly after taking office.

I hate to say it, but the U.S. has sadly been complicit in what has been described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
