THANOS DOESN'T LOVE GAMORA AND I CAN USE THE MOVIE'S OWN VISUAL LANGUAGE TO PROVE IT: A Thread

Give Infinity War a close watch, and you'll notice how very, very intentionally it uses color. Orange is the color of the Soul Stone and, perhaps more importantly, represents Gamora's own love.

The only time we see Gamora being held by her mother, they're surrounded by darkness with bits of orange light shining through.

Purple, meanwhile, is the color of Thanos. Fear of Thanos overshadows all other emotion in Gamora to the point that she can't allow herself to have a loving relationship with Peter. Just look at this scene where she makes him promise that he'll kill her if Thanos comes for her.

Though Peter and Gamora are able to share a tender moment, purple light completely engulfs them. Gamora can't let her have a future with Peter because, "One way or another, the path we're on leads to Thanos."

When Gamora finally does confront Thanos, she believes for a moment that she's killed him and breaks down, crying. An orange light passes over her--but it's fleeting. Whatever love Gamora has for Thanos is all but smothered by darkness.

Compare that to when Thanos finally has Gamora in his grasp. Suddenly, the room is ablaze, flooded with orange light.

"You let her go."

Peter and Gamora, who have both been through some INCREDIBLE personal growth over the last two Guardians of the Galaxy films, have never been able to make themselves emotionally vulnerable before this point. But now, when they say, "I love you," they're both awash in orange.

Also, sorry not sorry, but this moment BREAKS ME. The moment when Peter pulls the trigger because Gamora's wants, needs and agency are more important to him than his own attachment to her. This is very very important AND A DELIBERATE CONTRAST TO WHAT THANOS DOES LATER

Thanos brings Gamora back to his throne room (a room Gamora saw often as a child) and again, they're sounded by darkness with only the smallest hints of orange light shining through. Whatever love they have is so tainted, it's nearly extinguished.

To find the Soul Stone, Gamora brings Thanos to Vormir, where THE ORANGE SUNS HAS BEEN ECLIPSED BY DARKNESS, CASTING THE ENTIRE SKY IN A DARK PURPLE LIGHT, I JUST........... THERE IS LITERALLY..... NOTHING.... SUBTLE...... ABOUT THIS...???

"The stone better be up there... for your sister's sake."

Wow Thanos thanks for literally blocking out the sun while you say that, it really helps underscore just how much you want to taint every good and loving thing in Gamora's life

So they climb to the top of a mountain, again with just the barest amount of orange shining through all the purple (come on, it's like they weren't even trying to hide what they were going for here).......................

And OOOPS SURPRISE Thanos has to sacrifice "what he loves most" in order to get the stone. His tears imply that he loves Gamora, but in one of my favorite movie moments of all time, Gamora spits back at him, "This isn't love."

And there's no orange light. At all. Just purple.

WHERE DID THE SUN GO??? IT'S GONE. ALL THE ORANGE LIGHT IS GONE. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THANOS FINALLY SNUFFED OUT WHATEVER SMALL FLICKERING EMBERS OF LOVE STILL EXISTED BETWEEN THEM

Without love--without Gamora--Thanos wakes in a purple sea, void of light.

But Gamora has become something else entirely.

Gamora says in this film that everything she hates about herself, she got from Thanos. But without him? Without his influence, without his darkness swallowing her up, overshadowing everything in her life?

She's love. She's a radiant orange light.

So yeah. Can't wait to see Gamora get hers in Endgame. Because her love doesn't belong to Thanos. He doesn't control her any more. Doesn't overshadow her any more. There's nothing in her way now, just her love shining through.
