Imagine living in a country where the head of government gives a press conference on a mass shooting & uses it as an opportunity to remind that a hallmark of any democracy is how it defends the rights of everyone in society.

That this seems so strange to me now worries me.
Tweeps, there's some weird weird info on New Zealand shooter -- weird enough that I am not going to post anything until we know what is real or not.
Guys please DO NOT SHARE the supposed video or manifesto. That is what these people want when they commit these acts of mass terror.
You know, I understand that everyone's life is a quest for identity -- but imagine your view of yourself being so small and shallow that the only way you can define "your people" is a strict ethnic definition. I've never understood this.
I will only post some thoughts on the manifesto once it is confirmed.

But I will say -- there's this whole information ecosystem out there that these guys are bathing in every day, and we need to stop ignoring it like it's some fanboy group instead of a terrorist mentality.
We also need to acknowledge the politicians who benefit from this ecosystem, how they normalize it by exploiting this support without condemning the views, drawing cheerleaders from the ranks.
Folks I'm having a hard time with this one (the NZ shooting). This was a pivot point and what comes after will be worse -- unless we confront this dark malevolent hatred that has become a global terrorist ideology, often in the guy next door.
This wasn't a lone gunman.
This is internet radicalization. Highly interlinked to all the topics we've been discussing with data and info ops over past 2 years.

It is being facilitated by the platforms that refuse to act.
If it's a rule to fight the spread of ISIS propaganda and recruitment online, the same rule should apply to this. It's no different.
Good thread here reminding how much the far right a**holes that brought you Brexit and Trump have been targeting Australia as the next front. Not a good look now.

Keep hearing manifesto described as "anti-immigrant." That isn't the point. It is about ethnic/racial purity.
Now seems they aren't sure if it was a lone wolf or not. Will await more.

Also, let's stop calling it a manifesto. It isn't. It's self-FAQ of musings while he read things in chatrooms. There's no cohesion or narrative beyond he wants to be remembered for being more than garbage.
