It doesn’t make my heart sing that this boy is homeless despite his dad working two jobs. It doesn’t make me smile that after fleeing Boko Haram, they’re not guaranteed asylum.

This isn’t an uplifting story of America, it’s a tale of how low our bar is now for self-satisfaction.

Damn. This is a gut-punch.

I may be missing something but Tsujihara is accused of having had an affair with actress Charlotte Kirk, who then tried to leverage the affair into roles for herself.

Embarrassing certainly but—feels different from, say, Les Moonves?
AT&T clearly is not in a position to want post-merger scrutiny of its exec management but...pushing out the only person of color running a major Hollywood studio is also not a great look, especially if they replace Tsujihara with a white exec.
If @WarnerMediaGrp replaces Tsujihara with yet another white man it would be a bad look to say the least

Okay I took a few days to process after watching #CaptainMarvel and my take, not that anyone asked, is it was good MCU but not great MCU. Ant-Man/first Cap level, not Black Panther/Thor Ragnarok. It centers women—this is good.

All of its WOC are pushed to the edges. Not as good.
The storytelling was complicated—maybe more than needed—and there were plot flourishes that felt forced (like Goose as Flerkin and the Supreme Intelligence’s projective avatar). It felt like with fewer such Whoa! moments it could’ve had more time to spend developing character.
Specifically, more time examining the relationship between Carol and Maria/Monica (we only really see brief montages and hear exposition on their relationship as kids...yeah Carol kept getting up when she fell but Maria grew up to be a single mom and test pilot, BACKSTORY PLEASE)

Kamala Harris at an event hosted by the Commonwealth Club in 2010, explaining her decision as San Francisco DA to get tough on truancy.

Critics of truancy crackdowns say such efforts unfairly target poor parents and children without actually helping students.
Running for Attorney General, Harris pushed an anti-truancy bill which Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law in 2010 to allow truancy to become a crime all its own. Before the bill, truancy had to be prosecuted as child endangerment.
Under the bill, truant is defined as more than 3 unexcused absences in a school year. Parents of students who miss more than 10 percent of their classes would be offered state help and then if absences continued, would be subject to a $2000 fine or yearlong jail sentence.

I think it’s time for me to tell my full story. It might lose me some followers but so be it.
16 years ago I started doing .NET development before anyone knew what it was. I got a job with Accenture and was sent to work on the Unemployment System for the state of Colorado. I was completely self-taught. My step-dad gifted me an MSDN subscription in 2001.
I started playing with this huge file, (I think it was on 4 CD-ROMs), called “.NET Framework”.

I started playing around with the first version of Visual Studio building windows forms apps.

I got chills just now as I read a tweet from @brianefallon in which he points out the double standard being applied to @staceyabrams in regards to the fevered attention her student loan debt is garnering vs. Kavanaugh's debts of luxury.

Are we really surprised?

I was just outside with the dogs and thinking about my own student loan crisis and cursing the lost promise of a @HillaryClinton presidency.

Student loan debt is something she talked about frequently, because she had heard so many stories.

@staceyabrams and I are not alone.

My mind is full today, there will be many threads, but this might be the most important one I write. Outside with the dogs I had wondered whether I should write it. I will take @brianefallon's and @staceyabrams' story as a sign.

But there is more to this than student loans.

In it she stated “My family is no different than any other family who has experience with cancer.”
Oh sweetie. You are though. You have access to the best specialists. Your dad can afford to stay home from work. Your family can afford to be by his side.
I was working two jobs when my dad passed away in August. I had to ask family & friends for grocery gift cards to help support us. We had to have a kickstarter to cover funeral expenses.
