Here's what we need to be aware of re the white, evangelical community and how the left is convincing previously conservative white, suburban moms to vote Democrat for the first time:
There's been a social justice wave rolling through white evangelicalism for a few years now, and it's gotten stronger since Trump took office. It's been latched onto by people who may be theologically solid but who politically just don't know much.
They've tried to join the secular social justice movement re: immigration, racial relations, guns, etc., thinking somehow that secularists will be satiated by partial allegiance to their progressive cause. These are former conservatives who have gotten trapped by SJW emotionalism
They've gotten louder on things like "racial reconciliation" +the "compassion" of open borders and quieter on things like biblical marriage and abortion. Not shocking that when the church joins hands with the secular world, it's the church that ends up compromising. Now to women:
White women have typically voted Republican, particularly the evangelical variety. But that's changing. But that's shifting. 3 NYT articles that speak to this trend well: nytimes.com/2018/10/09/us/…
nytimes.com/2018/11/05/pod…
nytimes.com/2018/11/17/us/…
The specific demo Democrats are targeting: suburban, Christian, white women, who previously voted Republican mostly for the abortion issue. How are they doing this? By expanding the definition of "pro life" to mean open borders, gun control, environmentalism, etc.
Now these previously Republican-voting Christian women can say: "Yeah, I'm pro-life, but that's not just life inside the womb, that's life everywhere. Abortion is just one issue, and Democrats seem to have more "pro life" issues than Republicans do."
They no longer feel guilty about voting Democrat, because social justicians have convinced them that abortion is a trivial issue compared to the problems OUTSIDE the womb. The women convinced by this are, respectfully but frankly, typically women who know nothing re politics.
They are convinced by the "kids in cages" "Jesus was a refugee," "systemic racism is more prevalent today than ever before" rhetoric. They don't want to be seen as bigots. They don't want to be heartless. They want to be compassionate.
They're told that compassion = social justice, and they believe it. Why? Because many haven't thought through what social justice actually means nor compared it to biblical justice. And-sorry, shots fired-they've watched Jen Hatmaker, Ann Voskamp, Rachel Hollis, et al become SJWs
These are women who know nothing about politics but who have been convinced that love means, basically, beingprogressive. They do not know and are not interested in the reality that social justice isn't justice-- it has an unfair cost to those not the other side of the equation.
Wrapping this up. But here's the extremely important point: this manipulation is not the fault of the left. It is the fault of the CHURCH. Why? Because swapping biblical justice for social justice isn't just about political ignorance, it's about theological ignorance.
And (if clappy hands weren't so annoying I'd do them here) MOST CHURCHES DON'T TEACH THEOLOGY!! They teach emotionalism. They teach that Jesus exists for you, to empower your endeavors and to tell you you're pretty and awesome. Christianity is whatever you want it to be.
And when you embrace the me-first, self-love Christianity, of course you're going to latch on to the world's versions of love & justice, because your chief goal is no longer to be holy & set apart but rather woke & liked. Watch out, Christian, white women: they're coming for you.
My podcast episode was on this subject today. My podcasts are now all on YouTube, but you can listen on all podcast platforms.
PS one change I’d make to the second tweet since it was kind of contradicted later is that those who have latched on to social justice may *HAVE BEEN* theologically solid
