Australia is the most successful immigration nation in the world. Today I outlined our plan for managing future population growth in a responsible & sustainable way. We’re reducing the migration cap to 160,000 & ensuring we spread population growth more evenly across the country.
Our plan also focuses on building the infrastructure & delivering the services Australians need. I want them to spend less time in traffic & more time with their families, & to be able to get to work sooner & safer. It’s about making our towns & cities even better places to live.
We’re continuing to deliver a record $75 billion investment in infrastructure, which is underway right now across the country. As a government, it is our job to have a plan for managing Australia’s future population. And we are getting on with this job.

I'm horrified by the reports I’m following of the serious shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand. The situation is still unfolding but our thoughts and prayers are with our Kiwi cousins.
I condemn the violent, extremist, right-wing terrorist attack that has stolen the lives of so many innocent New Zealanders as they went about their peaceful practice of worship at their mosques in Christchurch today.
Australians stand with all New Zealanders today during this dark time where hate and violence has stolen their peace and innocence. Kia kaha (stay strong).

Population growth is a local and global issue. Like climate change, population requires local action in order to achieve global outcomes. According to the International Monetary Fund, seven out of the top ten per capita GDP countries have populations under 10 million.
Current growth projections have Australia on target to grow from 25 million (2018) to over 40 million by 2050, and around 80-100 million by 2100. There has been no public consultation and so there is no political mandate for this extreme growth.

This "final interim rule" skips usual due process and goes into effect NOW, because #MigrantCaravan
3/ N.B.: This doesn't complete cut off all possibility of legal protection for #asylum seekers. "Withholding of removal" (a form of relief I like to call "asylum lite") and protection under the Convention Against Torture remain. That's not to say that this is necessarily OK.

The Mideast is doomed. #Egypt alone needs to create 700,000 jobs EVERY SINGLE YEAR to absorb the new job seekers out its 98 million population. A third of this population already live below the poverty line (482 Egyptian Pound a month, which is less than $ 1 a day) ===>
2-The seeds of the #Viciouscircle that the Mideast region finds itself in today were planted at least 5 decades ago. Excessive public spending without matching revenues were the catalyst to a faulty & dangerous incentive system that helped to balloon populations beyond control
3-A governance system that was ostensibly put in place to help the poor ended up being a built-in factory for poverty generation. Excessive subsidies helped misallocate resources & mask the true cost of living for households. Correlation between family size and income was lost

Population growth:
- The 7.5 billion people alive today represents about 6.5% of all human beings *ever* born.
- Global population growth rate peaked in 1962 at 2.1% pear year & fell to almost half since then.
The African continent currently has the highest population growth.

How quickly African population growth rate will fall, as the continent goes through the demographic transition, will play an important role in determining how large the total global population will end up being.
The number of children worldwide has almost stopped growing and will is projected to remain constant at around 2 billion.
