The prevailing narrative is that Parliament is against the Irish backstop, but has anyone done a call around asking all MPs [if the UK is to leave the EU] whether they could at the very least tolerate the existence of the backstop.

I wager there’s a majority in favour.
People seem to forget that Labour accept the need for it.

As a brief aside from the Brexit madness. Here is a short, positive, thread about globalisation (and its limits).
While on honeymoon in Japan, the day before we flew home, we decided to buy a Nintendo Switch to use on the plane (we had watched all of the films on the way out).
I was slightly worried that it wouldn't work in the UK - as was the man in the shop - but the internet told me otherwise. No more regional restrictions; the Switch is universal and works all over the world.

Brilliant.

Amid reports that #UK PM @theresa_may hopes to renegotiate the "backstop" provision on the Northern Ireland border, let's recall that she already made clear what she wants in her letter to #EU leaders before disastrously losing the #Brexit Withdrawal Treaty ratification vote. 1/
"This could be mitigated by changes to the backstop itself," she wrote to @eucopresident & @JunckerEU "Proposals for a way in which the UK could choose to exit the backstop unilaterally were it ever to come into force, or for a hard time limit... 2/
on the duration of the usage of the backstop, have been raised and discussed in Parliament. We have also raised them previously in negotiations." So there are her proposals, i.e. the EU should basically just cave on backstop in face of House of Commons defeat. But but but ... 3/

1. Reading tweets over the (notional) Christmas Brexit truce, I’ve been struck by the repeated confusion about what the UK can / cannot do over the three months to 29th March 2019.
2. As Parliament resumes and the surrounding discussion heats up, it may therefore perhaps be helpful to offer a little (further) clarification about how the process under Article 50 TEU works.
3. Once Article 50 is triggered – as was done by the Prime Minister’s letter on 29th March 2017 – the two year time period specified by Article 50 runs down automatically.

This is gonna be long, but I think it's worth it. A well-regarded twitter poster, let’s call him Giorgio, has recently publish a thread stating among other things as follows. “The pathways to stopping or delaying Brexit are blocked.
But once the mandate is discharged, the pathways to UK rejoining, or being in a close association agreement with EU, within the single market and customs union, will be open, with no obstacles.”
This approach annoys me for two reasons, one because Giorgio seems to be attempting to cajole Remainers to put all activity on hold until we actually leave the #EU.
