1/ It’s clear from this article that the Conservative Party is failing in cases of Islamophobia - some egregious cases where expulsion was the only reasonable option but suspensions applied instead. E.g. theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
2/ There are two good suggestions in the article: (1) for the party to publish its disciplinary process so that there can be outside scrutiny (no-brainer) and (2) @miqdaad’s call for an independent inquiry, which I have said before is the right way forward
@miqdaad 3/ The party must get ahead of the issue especially after Christchurch. As the party of government it has a huge responsibility to understand and fight Islamophobia and that starts in its own ranks
Nb the cases mentioned would lead to sacking from jobs. Why is politics different?

Trump is a brazen liar. He regularly pushes staff to cover for him.

He's a master of framing debates.

His AG, appointed for loyalty, gave a partial summary of Meuller's report without authorisation from Meuller & made a 'prosecution decision'.

**Treat with extreme caution**
Also treat with caution anyone talking about "exoneration", given that one of the only (very short) direct quotes from Mueller's report is that Trump has *not* been exonerated for obstruction of justice
Oh and sorry, Mueller not Meuller! Treat with caution any tweets misspelling his name too

Woah.
Summary of the Meuller report by US Attorney General says there is no evidence of conspiracy by Trump Campaign with Russians. AG says insufficient evidence to indict for obstruction of justice.
Seems Meuller decided not to take a view on obstruction. Instead set out the evidence both ways and left it to congress to decide.
What I don’t know is how biased the US Attorney General is to Trump, if at all. So pinch of salt here but also the section on conspiracy seems very clear and directly quotes from the report

Lord Ahmad, thank you for your strong statement on #Islamophobia in the Conservative Party.

Are you aware the problem extends far beyond the 14 suspensions? There are many MPs, councillors, mayors and members whose Islamophobic actions have not been acted upon.
In addition, evidence suggests that suspensions may be occurring to give the pretence of "swift action" when instead the driver appears to be what works best for the PR of the Party.
Let's start with MPs & broader issues that have been ignored despite being raised for years - whether from @MuslimCouncil, Baroness @SayeedaWarsi or others

e.g. Zac Goldsmith, Bob Blackman, Nadine Dorries, Boris Johnson etc. - no lack of evidence

#ToryIslamophobia update – there have been a number of major developments today but for those not following closely, I have collated them to demonstrate the scale of the issue.
We had front pages in the Guardian and Independent referring to the scale of the issue after Baroness Warsi said the Conservative Party had an institutional problem with Islamophobia, before the Today programme and Politics Live covering the issue.
One of the cases highlighted earlier this week, which was covered on @Channel4News yesterday was that of former Tory council leader Mr Bowles who RTed a message hailing Tommy Robinson. It was confirmed that he was suspended today. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

I am shocked and disturbed that the Conservative Party of Canada voted to end birth right citizenship in Canada.

I say this as someone who was born stateless - legally without a country. I'll tell you my story and why this is move is so reckless and dangerous.
This was my family before the war in the 1980's. My family was from the north but my parents moved to Mogadishu for university and work.

My dad just started his business while my mom was training to be a nurse. Suddenly, the war came to their neighborhood and they had to leave.
My mom told me that they initially resisted leaving. They felt that the fighting would pass.

However, the gunfire got to their neighborhood and they were forced to flee. Along the way my mom and dad were separated.

Thankfully, my mom was able to make it to the port.

First off, we must thank-you all. We launched a poll on Monday expecting maybe 500 responses maximum. Instead we had a whopping three-thousand-two-hundred-and-thirty votes on our Twitter poll.

That’s ridiculous.
We asked you which party you thought had the oldest average age of MPs.

Most of you, 66%, thought it was the @Conservatives, then the @LibDems (15%), then @UKLabour (14%), with the @theSNP coming in last with (5%).

I bet the SNP are feeling fairly youthful right about now.
