- copyright exceptions for fair use are now MANDATORY in all EU nations. previously, these exceptions were not required
- so in fact, with the Directive, it is more legal to make memes and parody videos than ever
- this doesn't stop websites like YouTube from using these stupid filters, but attacking the EUCD doesn't help

- my hope is that this will help the preservation of video games through emulation

but this seems like an overall good step in the right direction, esp in contrast with the US' approach of "all these new things are scary. don't touch it"
Europeans, and North Americans, are among the privileged few to participate in formal democracies. you may as well take advantage of it
in the UK and US, copyright is about an OWNER (not creator) extracting profit from owned content
in the EU, it's centred around the ability of a creator to monetise
