@ScottAdamsSays 1/ Scott, I know I've been clowning on you a lot for this take, but out of respect for the books I liked as a kid, let me explain why this comes off so braindead.
@ScottAdamsSays 2/ We both know that language is a cipher, and that confirmation bias leads people to interpret speech in different ways. Particularly when it comes to any topics that are political in nature.
@ScottAdamsSays 3/ This is especially true for Donald Trump, a fundamentally dishonest man who often speaks in an incoherent ramble, peppering his speech with wild hyperbole and sarcasm. He frequently contradicts himself.
@ScottAdamsSays 4/ A lot of the country thinks this is a sign of mental decline or ignorance. But not you. You have spent the last several years insisting that this is all very deliberate, a way of "persuading" or "hypnotizing" the public in order to accomplish his goals
@ScottAdamsSays 5/ In fact, you've predicted many times that Trump would once and for all banish the idea that he was racist. You predicted a unifying RNC speech (he rambled about immigrants for nearly an hour). You predicted the "Hitler" narrative would vanish. Both were wrong.
@ScottAdamsSays 6/ In many ways, Charlottesville was a political gift from up on high. Neo-Nazis on the streets, one of whom murdered a young woman. If he was ever interested in killing this narrative, now was the time.
@ScottAdamsSays 7/ Instead...he punted it. He absolutely punted it. Even his allies think he punted it. He condemned the Nazis, but he equally blamed those protesting them. He pointed out that some people marching alongside the neo-Nazis were "very fine". He came off wounded and defensive.
@ScottAdamsSays 8/ Now here comes Scott Adams, posting that transcript over and over, noting that nowhere does he literally say "I think Nazis are very good". That's true.
@ScottAdamsSays 9/ But that's an insanely low bar for any politician, much less the POTUS, much less a POTUS whose most famous trait worldwide is his racism (if you don't believe that, visit another country). The Nazis were *on his side*. They were some of his most vocal supporters.
@ScottAdamsSays 10/ One would think a supposed "master persuader" would instinctively know this. You yourself have frequently praised Trump for his "persuasive instincts". If he handled it correctly, his opposition would be hamstrung. But he didn't.
@ScottAdamsSays 11/ So you have a big contradiction; Trump is simultaneously a master persuader that's subtly hypnotizing the public, and also too stupid to figure out that "both sides"-ing a Nazi rally is a PR disaster. This is the world that you live in.
@ScottAdamsSays 12/ In fact, in your world, it's even worse, because it means Trump knows *exactly* how a response like this was going to come off. "He's not racist, but he pretends to be for his voting base". What does that say about you and your fans? What does it say about Trump?
@ScottAdamsSays 13/ Of course, you can apply this to pretty much everything in that blog post you keep throwing around. It's Schrodinger's Trump: a world-class persuader and also so extremely careless with words that he innocuously finds himself in a race-baiting scandal every month or so.
@ScottAdamsSays 14/ I know your response to this is going to be "blame CNN!! blame MSNBC!!" but anyone who was online *at the time* knew that the *overwhelming* public reaction to nearly all of this was far worse than how it's been framed by the media.
@ScottAdamsSays 15/ I wouldn't expect you to know that, since you seem to block anyone who even remotely challenges your cognitive dissonance. But there's a reason why your fans are overwhelmingly old white men with a boner for dumb conspiracies - your worldview makes no sense to anyone else.
