If this is correct, we’ve seen 0.02% of the Mueller report.
And if it’s not correct? Well, as Lyndon Johnson once said, “I just want to watch the sonofabitch deny it.”
The length of the Mueller report doesn’t actually mean much. But it’s information there’s no reason not to make public that the Trump admin very much wants to avoid making public, so it’s a good question to keep asking.
Try to come up with a coherent reason to keep the length of the Mueller report secret. Any reason. Even a really bad reason. You can’t do it.
But the length of the report—just the number—would focus media and popular attention like a laser. It would lodge in popular culture immediately, and stick.
(How long was the erased portion of the Watergate tapes? If you know anything about Watergate, I bet you know that number.)
If the length of the report were released, the number would immediately and forever become part of the report’s name. “The 700-page Mueller report.” That’s what we’d all call it.
So they can’t release the number, even though there’s no reason not to release the number. It’s gorgeous.

So yesterday morning it leaked that the Mueller report was more than 300 pages long. Later in the day it leaked that it was between 300 and 400. Today, Barr says it's "nearly 400 pages."
My strong sense is that it's like 385 or something, and "300+" was a ham-handed attempt at spin. Barr's walking it back now because it'll be worse for him if it comes out later than in a Friday afternoon news dump.
