1/ The EU Council hasn't announced it yet, but I understand the EP and Council have agreed on the law exempting UK citizens from visas for short term travel after Brexit. Next steps in EP below; Council would adopt the law shortly afterward.
2/ Here's my summary of the law on visa waiver for UK citizens from an earlier stage in the process. Note: the EP has accepted the Council footnote describing Gibraltar as a colony. Council accepted EP's reciprocity bits.
3/ Describing Gibraltar as a colony does not alter its legal status, or affect visa waiver for those holding documents issued by Gibraltar. This is a unilateral law so it's not up to UK to consent to it.

4/ Now confirmed that EU Member States representatives have agreed with the European Parliament on the waiver of visa requirements for short term visits by UK citizens

1/ Amidst the latest attempt by Parliament to take some control over the Brexit agenda from the executive, a short thread on contradictory Brexity arguments about the UK parliament compared to the European Parliament.
2/ Among many false Brexity claims about the European Parliament, you sometimes see the (mostly) accurate claim that the European Parliament cannot initiate legislative proposals. (There are a handful of exceptions to the rule).
3/ Brexiters proceed from this mostly accurate claim to assert that therefore "the European Parliament is not a real Parliament, unlike Westminster". The flaw with this argument is that in practice the executive controls Parliament's agenda. Private members bills need govt time.

Prime Minister: need short further extension of membership.
May: need to know what the extension is for. Wants to sit down with Corbyn. Must involve current withdrawal agreement.
May: aim to jointly agree on future relationship. If they can't, would put options to the Commons. Government would follow the results. Aim to leave by May 22nd.

1/ It's transparency time! On Tuesday the CJEU ruled against the appeal of Harry Shindler and others, who challenged the legality of the Brexit negotiations. The court hasn't published its ruling, but here it is. (I was asked to omit the names of the other applicants).

3/ The rest of the CJEU Shindler appeal judgment. The Court ruled that the appeal was partly manifestly inadmissible and partly manifestly unfounded, and ordered the applicants to pay their own costs.

EU emergency #brexit summit 10 April will start 6pm in Brussels. The PM will be invited to ‘engage’ with the 27 EU leaders +inform them of her plans/requests. She’ll then like last time be asked to leave the room while the 27 try to come to unified position required by EU law /1
Leaders are divided. No one likes idea of long #brexit delay - if PM asks for it - and it only takes one country (France in frontline) to say no - as EU decision must be unanimous BUT /2
If the UK does as EU had requested and agrees to holding European parliamentary elections as a condition for being granted a longer #Brexit delay then it’s hard to imagine EU saying no. Even if the PM only presents a vague plan of what intends to do during longer extension /3

EU has almost given up trying to understand what’s going on in UK.
Dutch PM Rutte compares Theresa May to Monty Python knight whose limbs get cut off in a duel but insists the fight was a draw. Elsewhere in EU, mood is darker esp with the prospect of a lengthy #Brexit delay 1
With UK politics mired in confusion, only thing EU can control this week is choreography at EU leaders’ summit, starting Thurs. Donald Tusk, EU Council president is visiting capitals to try to co-ordinate single EU response if/when Theresa May asks for article 50 extension 2
Today Tusk is in Berlin and Paris – the EU superpowers. But when it comes to delaying Brexit, any one of the EU’s 27 leaders has a veto. The decision must be unanimous 3

So, Twitter. In light of the ongoing clusterfuck that is #brexit, let me tell you a little about my white, Australian experience of dealing with the UK visa authority, a complete shitshow of a bureaucracy that is in no way prepared to handle what's coming.
My husband and I first moved to the UK in January 2011. He'd been given a position at a good university there - however, because the Tories had slashed the number of visas any uni was allowed to sponsor, they were unable to sponsor him even though they'd hired him.
Fortunately for us, my maternal grandfather was born in the UK, which meant I was eligible for an ancestry visa. A much more expensive visa than a sponsored one would've been, but it came with greater protections and my husband could work as my spouse. So we opted to do that.
