Reminiscing with some friends on Whatsapp. Did you suffer any kind of ‘oppression’ from rich kids when you were in primary or secondary school in Nigeria?

Share your experience - a trained therapist is waiting to take your call.

One mixed race kid in my set used to go to London every holiday and come back with Empire magazine. Man, you had to put yourself through intense humiliation to get to read those mags. Weeks of begging and manoeuvring. Also, standing around him while he read it during break
Another girl - every term, unfailingly, they used to get a new car to come pick her. One day they sent a (brand new) 504 to come pick her and incredibly she refused to enter it. At this point my mum had stopped coming to pick me so I was taking public transport home
Fascinating how the intense inequality and oppression is always between the middle class/slightly rich/millionaires in process or hope and the super rich. Not really between rich and poor
Funny episode. I went to Air Force (Kaduna and Ikeja) so strictly low cut for boys hair. One time, we came back from holiday and this Air Vice Marshall’s son had his hair in a Vanilla Ice style. Hausa Fulani with that curly hair. Some sergeants used to go round with scissors ✂️
If they deem your hair to be breaking the rules, they give you a haircut on the spot. One sergeant saw the boy and brought out his scissors. Someone shouted from the top of another building “they will remote you!” Friends, that was how that boy carried that hairstyle till he left
As for the unfortunate boy who shouted, he received the beating of his life that day.
Like I said earlier, Rich on rich oppression is the worst
