A mini Saturday 📚 thread for anyone out there fed up with #Brexit (ie everyone). 1/
I’ve got that ‘so many books, so little time’ feeling (not unusual for me). I really want to read all of these... so if you’ve read any of them, feel free to help me choose which one to go with first. 2/
In return, here’s a couple - by @Damian_Barr and Sarah Henstra @TrampPress - that I’ve read over the last few weeks and highly recommend. 3/
4/ Finally, I’ve now finished ‘Spring’. It is quite simply superlative...fiction on a higher level. Roll on Summer!

1/3 There’s nothing that I can see - publicly or privately - to suggest that PM is remotely serious about any compromise around single market/customs union...or indeed that she would have the time to do anything meaningful on it even if she was.
2/3 it is clear that her strategy is to run down the clock with empty promises and then attempt to blackmail MPs. What’s not yet clear is if she’ll try to blackmail moderate MPs with threat of no deal or, as per Olly Robbins’ bar chat, Brexit zealots with threat of delay, or both
3/3 it is beyond unacceptable on an issue of such magnitude that MPs allow themselves to be forced into a fire or frying pan choice. The priority for all sensible MPs must surely be to insist on an Article 50 extension to take the crippling threat of no deal off the table now.

Little expectation in EU today that the Withdrawal Agreement will pass. Of it does, EU leaders would be mightily relieved. UK would then have till 22 May to sort out political declaration .. which can still be negotiated. Not legally binding /1
EU mood is one of resignation now. For first time this week a no deal #Brexit is being viewed and discussed as a v real possibility. Rather than a distant, unlikely prospect /2
At yesterday’s meeting of ambassadors of the 27 EU countries, I’m told diplomats tackled ‘hot potato’ EU issues head-on that they preferred to avoid before as long as no deal seemed so unlikely /3

The centrists waking nightmare is currently the thought of actually having to endorse JC in important votes in the next few weeks, if his thus far winning strategy does result in May failing again. 1/
They don't want to vote w/ JC on any none PV resolution to #Brexit. 2 things can happen now as we get to the wire
1) May adopts JCs proposal, Labour backs the brexit deal, we're done. Brexit is solved & we can get on with a split & preparing left candidates to run against them 2/
2) May refuses to adopt JCs proposal and her same shit deal gets rejected again. Then a VoNC holds huge weight. The sabateurs skin crawls at the thought of voting for an election to happen that they'll be deselected in before it even begins. Lovely jubbly. 3/

Part 5: **Balance in Brexit reporting**

Which outlets are more positive about #Brexit, and which are more negative?
Running the numbers, it seems that the BBC's articles are most likely to skew positive about Brexit, while the Independent is the most negative.

In the middle, the Guardian and the Mail (the latter possibly due to MoS vs DM stances).
So, how did I reach this conclusion? Readers of previous threads will know that I’ve been analysing the headlines of 2,000 Brexit articles and body text of 1300 items published since Jan 2018.

1. We sell cosmetic supplies and ingredients to home users and other SMEs - 66% of our sales are to customers in the EU. We rely on frictionless trade to get goods to these customers cheaply and quickly.
2. We sell to thousands of producers of soaps and cosmetics. The most obvious and possibly most pressing issue is the inevitable increase in cost and complexity of trade without access to the customs union and single market.

Yeah, the interactions between moths and bats are totally awesome and should really be discussed.

There's actually a lot of controversy here...nobody really agrees on how exactly it's done but moths *do* disrupt bat attacks using sound.
So, I guess the first question...why bats?

Although it's commonly said bats like mosquitoes, mosquitoes are too small to provide them with a good meal and don't really comprise a large part of their diet.

Instead, they like those big, juicy moths.
...and if you're a moth, bats are just about the scariest thing around. They're too big to fight, too agile to dodge, and they hunt using sound so camouflage isn't going to work in midair.

If you're a moth, you have to figure out how to share the sky.
