1. PM's just arrived at Elysee Palace to see Macron - absolutely vital meeting - he and others are unlikely to refuse her request for extension, but there's a political cost at home for asking for delay at all, and EU might attach rather a lot of strings
2. LOTS of different views around Westminster and diplomatic circuit about where discussions will end up on delay - some believe a tight deadline end of June is more likely to put pressure on cross party talks to bear some kind of fruit
3. Most common view seems to consensus around long extension - some noting 9 month is the longest when there is a good bet that Theresa May would be around to conclude Brexit phase one, because after that, Tory MP s can have another go at ousting her
4. So if extension's a year, they might be dealing with unknown quantity... what all agree on is that leaders will only work it out when they see whites of each other's eyes tomorrow night and May has to demonstrate political process is credible to a delay at all
5. Last thought for now - any further delay has political consequences at home, and a big chunk of tory party is likely to be very unhappy in unlikely event of a deal with Labour that ends up with customs union
