1/ With Trump, Barr now on offense, Dems face an awkward choice: continue to defend those who gave them a discredited (& self-defeating) conspiracy theory, or acknowledge that those people, including intel officials, acted improperly. To any fair-minded observer, this is bad:
Here is the FBI applying to spy on Carter Page, claiming it "believes that the Russian gvt’s efforts are being coordinated with” him & “perhaps [others] associated with [Trump’s] campaign.” Their source for this insane claim, is, insanely, a dossier paid for by Trump’s opponent! 
3/ Imagine if the FBI had sought to spy on a former Obama aide; claimed they suspect that aide of coordinating with Iran on Obama’s behalf; and then cited a dossier paid for by Romney. Would Dems be outraged?
4/ I don’t think Dems want to die on this hill. As some of us have said for years, the way to beat Trump is through challenging his policies. If they choose to keep defending this, they’ll lose people outside of their base.
5/ for journalists, the choice shouldn’t be awkward at all: we’re supposed to follow the facts, not partisan imperatives.
