Leading Dems aren't just defending Omar from one particular attack, they are praising her and promoting her as a leader for their party.
It's very disturbing to watch. Imagine if R's had promoted and praised Steve King in this way after his comments.

Thing is that Omar has been emboldened. She's had 4 major scandals in as many months, but they keep defending her every time. She will have another one soon and Dems will be stuck defending her, which is why they are trying to portray any criticism of her as out of bounds.
But that's just not a serious position that will fly. So instead Dems are defining themselves as a party that accepts/normalizes antisemitism and tries to silence critics. Good luck selling that outside your base.
Trump isn't popular, but a lot of his unpopularity has to do with his character and behavior. If Dems are going to defend similar and worse behavior on their own side, they lose any leverage on that front. Add in Dems running on socialism, and suddenly Trump has a real shot.
