Our healthcare system has a lot of issues, but this doesn't seem like a great example.

She didn't like the needles the insurance would cover so she rationed (by choice) during a 2 month period before she received tax-payer funded Medicaid coverage.
Diabetes medication is extremely expensive. Far too expensive. However, we also have also come up with some of the best advances in treating Diabetes in the world partly due to how much is spent on R&D.
We have agreed as a society that we will help support those who can't support themselves. That's what Medicaid is for and she got access to it.

What happens when no one has a choice and gov't needs to cut their budget so they force everyone to use the needles she hated?
Suddenly, even people who can afford to pay themselves will be stuck using those low-cost needles and no one will be spending money looking for better solutions.

That's the reality of what healthcare would look like under Berniecare.
