About 1/3 of present day Borno state, 1/2 of present day Adamawa and Taraba were once part of northern Cameroon, it was called called British Cameroon from 1922-61. South western Cameroon areas like Beau and Bamenda were also part of the British Cameroon.
Present day Cameroon was a German colony during the scramble for Africa by Europeans , during the first world war it was occupied by British, French and Belgian forces and taken over, later it was taken over by league of nations in 1922
The French part was known as Cameroon and the British part were called British northern Cameroon and British southern Cameroon. When the league of nations ceased to exist the territory became a UN trustee territory in 1946
French Cameroon became independent in January 1960 but the English part did not, the English part opted for a plebiscite to either join Nigeria or Cameroon. British northern Cameroon opted to join Nigeria mainly due to religious factor, and the south joined Cameroon in 1961
British northern Cameroon became Sardauna province under northern Nigeria. For those saying Atiku was born in Cameroon they should know that he was born in British colony and not Cameroon the same way Buhari was also born in British colony
