Everybody should be paying attention to @JustinElliott’s reporting on how Congress is being lobbied into stopping IRS from making a free tax filing portal where, as in other countries, it could come prepopilated to check, vastly simplifying and cost-reducing the process for most.
That would also free up IRS to devote more of its auditing resources to rich people with more complicated taxes and a bank of tax attorneys helping them skip out on them.
It’s just one of many ways that the system is skewed toward the rich and the companies feasting off the less affluent
people have spent a lot of time calling their Congresspeople about Trump’s hideous civil rights violations but in things like this too, research how your Reps plan to vote and if they’re not openly against it you can likely bet their being pressured by the likes of H&R Block
