If your ONLY job is to retain and expand your party's seats in the House, then this strategy is sensible. But it's not @SpeakerPelosi's and @LeaderHoyer's only job. It's A job.
Their primary job is legislation and oversight of the Executive Branch. That includes impeachment.

Impeachment would distract from focus on winning 2020 House races. And deep losses could potentially jeopardize the extent of Pelosi's and Hoyer's power. So they'd like to avoid that. But there is something more important at stake here: The integrity of the Republic.
They need to hear this from everyone.
